The Dodgers greeted old friend Nathan Eovaldi quite rudely on Friday night, hitting three home runs against their former pitcher. But the 11-4 win was marred by the tender right elbow of Chad Billingsley, which caused him to leave the game in the fourth inning.
Billingsley, who had won six consecutive starts since coming off the disabled list with elbow inflammation, was leading 6-3 with one out in the fourth inning when he felt something after a pitch to Gaby Hernandez with runners on second and third.
Trainer Sue Falsone came to the mound along with manager Don Mattingly, pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, and catcher A.J. Ellis, and after a brief conversation Billingsley was removed from the game.
Jamey Wright relieved Billingsley and promptly walked Hernandez to load the bases, though the walk was charged to Billingsley since he left with a two-ball count. But Wright recorded the final two outs to escape the jam. Wright did allow a towering home run to Giancarlo Stanton in the fifth inning, but that was the last run the Marlins would score.
Andre Ethier hit a three-run home run, one of his four hits on the night. Since rupturing a quarter-sized blister on his right hand on Wednesday, Ethier is 6-for-8 in two games.
Hanley Ramirez, for whom Eovaldi was sent to Miami, also homered against him, as did Juan Rivera, starting in place of the soon-to-be traded James Loney.
Eovaldi, who was 0-3 in four starts at Dodger Stadium as a Dodger, did not have a good night. He allowed six runs and seven hits, including those three home runs, in just three innings, with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Dodgers scored four runs in Eovaldi's four home starts when he was with the team.
Now, we await word on Billingsley.
