There is an actual game to be played Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, with the reigning Cy Young Award winner on the mound, in a pretty good pitching matchup between Clayton Kershaw and Josh Johnson.
But who cares? The trade is official!
Adrian Gonzalez is now a Dodger, and will bat cleanup on Saturday. Josh Beckett and Nick Punto are Dodgers too, as is Carl Crawford, who just had Tommy John surgery.
James Loney, Allen Webster, and Ivan De Jesus are now officially members of the Red Sox, while Rubby De La Rosa and Jerry Sands are technically players to be named later.
It is the largest trade in team history.
"We continue to do everything in our power to strengthen our team for the stretch drive in an effort to reach the postseason," said general manager Ned Colletti. "This trade today exemplifies ownership’s commitment to making the team as good as possible not only for 2012 but for many seasons to come."
Here is Saturday's lineup:
Victorino LF
Ellis 2B
Kemp CF
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Ethier RF
Cruz 3B
Ellis C
Kershaw P
