Dodgers Add Javy Guerra, Tim Federowicz, John Ely To Roster

John Ely is back with the Dodgers, after possibly winning the pitching triple crown in Albuquerque.

The Dodgers added three players to their active roster on Saturday before their third of four games against the Diamondbacks. Javy Guerra and Tim Federowicz were recalled from Triple A Albuquerque, and joining them is John Ely, who was added back to the 40-man and active rosters.

Guerra was optioned to Triple A on August 21, and was 2-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 44 games this season for the Dodgers, with 37 strikeouts and 22 walks in 44 innings.

Both Federowicz and Ely made the All Pacific Coast League Team, and this is their first major league stint this season. Ely was named the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the year, and leads the PCL in wins (14), ERA (3.20), and strikeouts (165). He will wear number 48 with the Dodgers.

Federowicz hit .294/.371/.461 with 34 doubles and 11 home runs in 115 games in Triple A. He will wear number 52 with the Dodgers, after wearing number 31 last September in his only previous big league stint.

To make room for Ely on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed Alfredo Silverio on the 60-day disabled list. Silverio has been out all year after suffering multiple injuries in a car crash in January. He has Tommy John surgery on May 9 and is expected to be out until May 2013. Silverio was optioned to the minors in spring training, but this move retroactively gives him service time and a major league salary for a full season.

Notes

  • Manager Don Mattingly said Scott Elbert could be ready to be activated from the disabled list once his 15 days are up. The earliest date Elbert could be activated is September 11, when the Dodgers start a two-game series in Phoenix.
  • The Dodgers finalized a pair of game times: Sunday, September 16 against the Cardinals is a 1:10 p.m. PDT game, and Saturday, September 22 in Cincinnati is a 1:05 p.m. PDT game. The game in three weeks against the Reds will be on Fox.
