The Mesa Solar Sox scored early and often on Wednesday as they crushed the Desert Dogs 13 to 3. Glendale starter Michael Lorenzen (Reds) got lit up as he gave up 7 runs on 6 hits, including a pair of homers, then Jamie Walczak (Reds) was just as bad in relief as he allowed 4 more runs to score in just an inning and a third. The good news is that Dodger reliever Yimi Garcia then came in and had a solid AFL debut, tossing 1.2 scoreless frames and permitting just a single. Fellow Dodger Jarret Martin wasn't so lucky in his first AFL game, however, as he gave up a 2-run homer in the 8th to cap the blowout.
Only one Dodger farmhand was in the Desert Dogs starting lineup on Wednesday, and that was catcher Chris O'Brien who went 0 for 3 with a walk. Fellow backstop Pratt Maynard did get into the game as a pinch hitter and walked in his only at bat. No other Glendale hitter had a noteworthy game at the plate, but on the Solar Sox Albert Almore (Cubs), who is just 11 days older than Corey Seager, went 4 for 5 with a double, a homer, and 3 RBI's.
