Braves 2013 NLDS roster includes 11 pitchers, no Dan Uggla, no Paul Maholm

The Braves will carry three catchers on their playoff roster but one of them, Evan Gattis, has also played 48 games in left field and four games at first base this season.

The Braves announced their 25-man NLDS roster on Wednesday, which does not include second baseman Dan Uggla or left-handed starter Paul Maholm.

The Uggla news saw expected, as reported by Mark Bowman of MLB.com on Tuesday. Leaving Maholm off leaves the door wide open to start Freddy Garcia in Game 4 (if necessary). Garcia was 1-2 with a 1.65 ERA in six games with Atlanta, including three starts, with 20 strikeouts and five walks in 27⅓ innings.

David Hale, who made his major league debut on Sept. 13 and allowed one run in 11 innings in two September starts for the Braves with 14 strikeouts, is also on the roster.

Pitchers (11): Left-handers Luis Avilan, Mike Minor, and Alex Wood; Right-handers Luis Ayala, David Carpenter, Freddy Garcia, David Hale, Craig Kimbrel, Kris Medlen, Julio Teheran, and Jordan Walden

Catchers (3): Evan Gattis, Gerald Laird, Brian McCann

Infielders (5): Freddie Freeman, Paul Janish, Chris Johnson, Elliot Johnson, Andrelton Simmons

Outfielders (6): Jose Constanza, Jason Heyward, Reed Johnson, Jordan Schafer, B.J. UptonJustin Upton
