Dodgers left-handed pitcher Onelki Garcia returned to the Arizona Fall League, and pitched a scoreless inning on Friday afternoon in the Glendale Desert Dogs' 4-2 loss to the Salt River Rafters at Camelback Ranch.
Garcia, the Dodgers' third-round pick in 2012, replaced Pedro Baez on the roster, but there is no injury.
Garcia was originally tabbed to start in the AFL, but once he was called up to the Dodgers in September his fall schedule changed. The Dodgers kept Garcia on a separate throwing program in Arizona for the first two weeks of the AFL, also keeping him ready on the remote chance he was needed as an injury replacement for the Dodgers in the playoffs.
Baez, who was added to the Desert Dogs roster as a replacement for Garcia, pitched four scoreless appearances in the AFL, with three hits and three walks allowed in 4⅓ innings, with six strikeouts.
Garcia on Friday in his first AFL action pitched a scoreless fifth inning in what was essentially a bullpen game for Glendale. Garcia walked one and struck out another.
Garcia was one of three Dodgers with scoreless appearances for Glendale on Friday. Michael Thomas a hit and a walk in his 1⅓ innings, and he was followed by a scoreless frame with two strikeouts by Yimi Garcia, who has five strikeouts while allowing just four runners to reach base in 6⅔ innings so far in the AFL.
Corey Seager, who snapped an 0-for-17 skid with a double in the ninth inning on Thursday, was 0-for-3 with a strikeout on Friday. He was the only Dodger position player to play for the Desert Dogs on Friday.
Twins super prospect Byron Buxton homered in the first inning for Glendale in the loss.
