Dodgers in NLCS: Would you rather face Cardinals or Pirates?

The Dodgers are the first team in MLB's version of the final four. Their NLCS opponent will be determined on Wednesday night in St. Louis.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

After Monday night's thrilling 4-3 win over the Braves to wrap up the National League Division Series, we know the Dodgers will move on. But which team would you rather face in the National League Championship Series: the Cardinals or Pirates?

The advantage of playing the Pirates would be home field advantage for the Dodgers, meaning Games 1 and 2 of the NLCS on Friday and Saturday would be at Dodger Stadium.

But if the Cardinals win Wednesday, even though the Dodgers would open in St. Louis, the Dodgers would miss ace Adam Wainwright until Game 3 of the NLCS on Monday, Oct. 14.

Facing the Pirates means facing the likely National League MVP in Andrew McCutchen, and the middle three games would be held at PNC Park, thus far the loudest venue in the MLB playoffs. The Dodgers' pitching staff is full of guys with two syllable names -- Kershaw, Greinke, Hyun-jin, Ricky, Kenley, Paco, Wilson, Withrow, etc -- giving Pittsburgh natives plenty of taunting targets a la Johnny Cueto.

The Dodgers held the Braves to hitting .265 (9-for-34) with runners in scoring position during the NLDS, but facing the high-powered Cardinals offense in the next round would mean pitching to a team that hit an absurd .330/.402/.463 in those situations.

Also, the Cardinals have Carlos Beltran, who has 16 home runs in 38 postseason games in his career, hitting .355/.464/.783 on the big stage.

The Dodgers beat the Cardinals in four of their seven meetings in 2013, and they beat the Pirates in four of their six matchups.

Scott Van Slyke's dad Andy was drafted (sixth overall pick in 1979!) by and began his career in St. Louis, but after four years moved to Pittsburgh, where he won all five of his Gold Gloves and made all three of his All-Star teams.

Which team would you rather face, St. Louis or Pittsburgh? Pick your poison in the comments.
