David Freese and Matt Adams homered, and the Cardinals beat the Pirates 6-1 in Game 5 of their National League Division Series on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium, and won the series three games to two. The Dodgers will play the Cardinals in the National League Championship beginning Friday night in St. Louis.
Adam Wainwright allowed eight hits and one run in his complete game win for the Cardinals on Wednesday night, but the good news for the Dodgers is that the St. Louis ace won't start in the NLCS until Game 3 Monday.
The Dodgers will open the series with Zack Greinke in Game 1 on Friday and Clayton Kershaw in Game 2 on Saturday. Greinke beat Wainwright and the Cardinals in St. Louis on Aug. 5, allowing two runs in 6⅓ innings. Kershaw is 0-2 against the Cardinals in 2013, and allowed four runs in seven innings at Dodger Stadium on May 26, and allowed two runs in six innings at Busch Stadium on Aug. 6.
The Dodgers were 4-3 against the Cardinals this season, including three wins in four games in St. Louis. Los Angeles was tied with Texas for the best road record in the majors in 2013, at 45-36.
The NLCS will be televised by TBS, and the ALCS by Fox. The game times haven't yet been officially announced by MLB but based on a press release from Fox, tweets from a Boston Fox affiliate, and television schedules, it appears the Dodgers and Cardinals will play day games on Saturday in Game 2 and on Wednesday in Game 5.
The Dodgers will fly to St. Louis on Wednesday night after their workout at Dodger Stadium.
