The big new out of the fall and winter leagues was that the newest member of the Dodgers 40 man roster, Alexander Guerrero, made his debut in the Dominican. Guerrero started two games for the Gigantes del Cibao, one at second base and one at shortstop, and pinch-hit in a third game. He had a solid first game as he went 2 for 5 with a double and a couple of RBI's, and over the next two contests he combined to go 1 for 6. I'm sure the infielder will continue to see plenty of action in the upcoming weeks.
Dee Gordon, also playing in the Dominican, has hit very well over the past week or so. Gordon had 4 straight multi-hit games between November 3rd and November 7th, and overall is batting .375. While 11 of his 12 hits have been singles, that's still a strong performance given that he is also learning a new position in the outfield.
Moving to Venezuela, Joc Pederson cooled off considerably and he managed just two singles and 1 walk over three games this past week. He also struck out 5 times and is hitting just .205 over his last 10 games. Teammate Nick Buss connected on his first homer of the off-season on Sunday, and he has a healthy .283 average overall.
In Australia James Baldwin hasn't done much outside of going 4 for 5 in his very first game, but he's still been able to parlay that into a .304 average over 7 games. Big Chris Jacobs, however, has really struggled with just 4 singles over 8 games. On the mound Blake Smith has also had trouble in the early going, including his most recent outing where he walked 3 and gave up 3 runs while recording just one out.
Finally in the Arizona Fall League Corey Seager's struggles has been well documented, but it should also be noted that the rest of his teammates on offense haven't done much either. Chris O'Brien "leads" the Dodger hitting prospects with a .231 average, with Brian Cavazos-Galvez batting .224 and Pratt Maynard struggling to keep his average about .100.
Dodger pitching in the AFL has had a little more success, including the newest addition to the Desert Dogs Craig Stem who tossed a couple of perfect innings this past week. Yimi Garcia recorded his first save of the season this past Saturday and has a solid ERA of 3.38, while Jarret Martin allowed a run in both of his appearances this week.
