Some thoughts on second base and the outfield for the Dodgers, both positions that shortstop Dee Gordon could find himself playing in 2014.

One week before Christmas we are in a bit of a news lull regarding the Dodgers. Here is a look around at some notes and news from the last few days.

  • Dee Gordon talked with Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times about preparing for the season. After playing 12 games in the outfield Tigres de Licey in the Dominican Winter League, Gordon appears ready to try to make the Dodgers as a utility man in 2014. "If that's what I have to do," Gordon told Hernandez. "This is a great team."

  • Matt Kemp sat down with Michelle Marie at ESPN for an interview and said, among other things, "I've been in L.A. for seven and half, eight years ... I'm happy to be where I am."

  • Speaking of Kemp, in an interview Wednesday morning on ESPN 710 AM, general manager Ned Colletti said, "Our intent is to keep our outfielders, and to get them healthy. I expect our OF to be the OF we put together last year. ...I don't know when the phone is going to ring with something that changes that."

  • Colletti also in that interview that among the candidates for the starting second base job are Alexander Guerrero, Gordon ... and Miguel Rojas. I do know they love Rojas on defense, but a soon-to-be 25-year-old with 44 games in Triple-A and who hit .233/.303/.307 in Double-A Chattanooga in 2013 has a chance of starting in L.A. in 2014 somewhere between slim and none.

  • The Dodgers will hold their annual winter development program at Dodger Stadium at some point in January, with details forthcoming soon. Last year the event was held at Camelback Ranch in Arizona while construction was ongoing in Los Angeles; among those attending last year were Paco Rodriguez, Tim Federowicz, Chris Withrow and Zach Lee.

  • Tony Gwynn Jr., who played all of 2013 for Triple-A Albuquerque, signed a minor league contract with the Phillies, with an invitation to spring training.

  • Matt Treanor, who caught for the Dodgers in 2012, didn't play baseball in 2013 but will attempt a return in 2014, inking a minor league deal with the Indians, with a spring training invite.

  • 2013 National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw received a secondary trophy for his efforts, and showed it off on Tuesday:
