The Dodgers head to Peoria on Saturday to battle the Mariners, and will do so without Matt Kemp. Per the advice of team trainer Sue Falsone, manager Don Mattingly won't play Kemp one day after he made his spring training debut, going 0-for-2 in Friday's split squad loss to the Padres at Camelback Ranch.
Mattingly said the plan was for Kemp to play Sunday, likely again at designated hitter. Coupled with Monday's day off, the earliest Kemp could play consecutive days would be Tuesday and Wednesday. He could play center field on Tuesday.
Though Kemp won't make the bus trip north to Peoria, 27 players from major league camp will. Here is the travel roster that was posted in the Dodgers clubhouse for Saturday's 12:05 p.m. PT game against Seattle:
- Pitchers (6): Chris Capuano, Chad Billingsley, Ronald Belisario, J.P. Howell, Kenley Jansen, Brandon League
Capuano will start, and both he and Billingsley are slated to pitch roughly three innings, possibly less depending on their pitch count. - Catchers (5): Tim Federowicz, Wilkin Castillo, Ramon Castro, Jesus Flores, Matt Wallach
- Infielders (10): Luis Cruz, Adrian Gonzalez, Dee Gordon, Hanley Ramirez, Justin Sellers, Brian Barden, Nick Evans, Omar Luna, Ozzie Martinez, Dallas McPherson
- Outfielders: (6): Alex Castellanos, Andre Ethier, Elian Herrera, Yasiel Puig, Tony Gwynn Jr., Jeremy Moore
