Here's a look at a few members of the 2013 Dodgers from a fantasy perspective. You already read our season predictions, in which True Blue LA writers guessed the Dodgers would win 91 games, and capture the NL West. Now let's hit the individuals.
Sleeper
It's hard to say Hyun-jin Ryu is a sleeper, since the Dodgers paid $25.7 million just for the negotiating rights, then signed him to a $36 million, six-year contract, but the 26-year-old Korean left-hander is still relatively unknown in the United States, after starring for seven years in the KBO.
Ryu is a large human and has been compared to David Wells, though not in an insulting way. Ryu has command of four pitches and finished spring on a high note by retiring 23 consecutive batters. He has the stuff to retire big league hitters, and could be a good fantasy source of strikeouts and wins.
Bust
On ESPN's Baseball Tonight on Sunday, Tim Kurkjian had the Dodgers winning the wild card, though he was skeptical of the Dodgers' injured shortstop.
"It doesn’t help that Hanley Ramirez is going to miss six weeks and frankly, I’m wondering what Hanley Ramirez is going to come back," Kurkjian said. "He has not been the great player that he was three years ago."
Ramirez hit .319/.394/.532 from 2007-2010 with the Marlins, but his just .252/.326/.416 in the last two seasons. Factor in that he is out until at least mid May after thumb surgery and he is a candidate to stay away from in fantasy baseball.
