Dodgers 4/9/13 minor league report - Rainouts result in slow day

Two rain outs and an off day meant that only the Quakes played on Tuesday

Minor League Player of the DayDuke von Schamann (HiA) - 6 IP, 0 runs, 0 walks, 5 K's, 4 hits. Duke was outstanding in his 2013 debut, and has been extremely effective since joining the organization last year as a 15th round pick out of Texas Tech

AAA – Rained out

AA – Off day

HiA – The Quakes played in another one run game on Tuesday, but this time they were able to come out on top as Rancho blanked the Modesto Nuts (A's) 1 to 0. Pitching was obviously the key in this contest as four pitchers combined to shutout the opposition. Duke von Schamann was extremely effective as he started the game with 6 scoreless frames, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 5. A trio of relievers were perfect over the final 3 innings as Craig Stem threw the 7th and struck a pair, Matt Shelton pitched the 8th and picked up the win, and Michael Thomas dominated the competition in the 9th by striking out the side and recording the save. The only scoring in this game occurred in the 8th when Darnell Sweeney singled, was bunted over, then scored on an Angelo Songco base knock. Sweeney had also tripled earlier in the game for the Quakes only extra base hit, while O'Koyea Dickson went 3 for 4.

LoA – Rained out

Coming up – There are 6 games scheduled on Wednesday thanks to the rain outs as both Albuquerque and Great Lakes will play two. The Isotopes will send Stephen Fife and I believe Ted Lilly to the mound in their games, while Zach Lee is scheduled for the Lookouts. Gustavo Gomez is set to go for the Quakes, and the Loons are going to use Zach Bird and probably Angel Sanchez in their two contests.
