Minor League Player of the Day – Dee Gordon (AAA) - 3 for 4, 2 2B's, 3 RBI's, 1 SB. After making four errors on Wednesday, Dee Gordon finally stepped up his offensive game on Thursday by driving in all 3 runs. He's still off to a slow start at the plate, but hopefully this is the start of a hot streak for him.
AAA – The Albuquerque pitching staff held the Omaha offense to just 5 hits on Thursday as the Isotopes defeated the Storm Chasers (Royals) 3 to 2. Starter Matt Magill threw well in his second appearance of the season, allowing 2 runs and striking out 7 in 5 innings of work. He gave up 4 hits and walked 3. The bullpen permitted just 1 hit over the final 4 frames, and that came off Peter Moylan who threw 1.2 innings. Josh Wall picked up a hold and Shawn Tolleson got the save with a perfect 9th. At the plate Dee Gordon made up for a lousy defensive game on Wednesday by driving in all three runs in this game he went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Scott Van Slyke cooled off a bit as he "only" had a single in 4 at bats, while Nick Buss doubled and scored 2 runs.
AA – The Lookouts defeated the Smokies (Cubs) 6 to 3 on Thursday behind a solid performance from Chris Reed. Reed wasn't lights out by any means as he allowed 4 hits, 3 walks, and 2 runs over 6 frames while striking out just 3, but that was a big improvement from his previous outing and earned him the win. Ryan Acosta threw 2 innings out of the bullpen and gave up a run, while Yimi Garcia set down the Smokies in order with a perfect 9th to record his first save of the year. The Chattanooga offense banged out 12 hits in this game, including a double and a single by Yasiel Puig. Joc Pederson also went 2 for 5 with a double, while Blake Smith drove in a pair with two singles. The other big hit came from team Netherlands catcher Dashenko Ricardo who blasted a two-run homer.
HiA – The Quakes were smoked by the Mavericks (Mariners) in the High Desert on Thursday 14 to 4. Rancho starter Garrett Gould took the brunt of the beating as he was torched for 8 runs (6 earned) over just 2+ innings. Raydel Sanchez got through the next 3 frames without damage, but Craig Stem gave up 4 more in the 7th and Daniel Coulombe completed the blowout by allowing 2 more runs to score in the 8th. At the plate O'Koyea Dickson's double was the only extra base hit for Rancho, although four players did have a pair of singles. Jonathan Garcia, Scott Schebler, Scott Wingo, and Ryan Mount all went 2 for 4, but none of them had any RBI's to show for the efforts.
LoA – Rained out again
Coming up – For the fourth day in a row Zach Bird will be the scheduled pitcher for the Loons, who wait until Saturday to make up Thursday's rain out. Ross Stripling will start for the Quakes on Friday, Andres Santiago will take the mound for the Lookouts, and Blake Johnson will get the ball for the Isotopes.
