Dodgers-Padres brawl links: Carlos Quentin in line for long suspension

The brawl between Carlos Quentin, Zack Greinke, the Padres and Dodgers was the biggest story in baseball on Thursday. Naturally, several people weighed in on the topic.

Carlos Quentin implored reporters to "do their homework" regarding his history with Zack Greinke. Jack Moore of FanGraphs did, and concluded "Quentin’s actions not only appear malicious, but completely unjustified as well."

Dave Cameron at FanGraphs asks whether suspensions should be tied to missed time due to injury, but noted the logistical impossibility of doing so.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports suggests Quentin should receive a 15-game suspension, and said the left fielder "can't have it both ways. He can't have being hit by a pitch be part of his game (115 HBPs), then be upset at the pitcher when it happens."

Mike Petriello of Mike Scioscia's Tragic Illness says everything to come out of Thursday night in San Diego is bad.

Rob Neyer at Baseball Nation didn't excuse Quentin's actions, but understood them.

Mike Bates at SB Nation wrote about Quentin being an HBP magnet.

Bill Shaikin of the LA Times says Quentin hurt both the Dodgers and the Padres.

The Dodgers Twitter account got into the mix last night with this missive that has been retweeted nearly 9,000 times as of this post.
