Yasiel Puig injury: Dodgers prospect placed on DL with sprained thumb

Puig has hit .333 with three home runs in his first 13 games in Double-A.

The answer to why Dodgers outfield prospect Yasiel Puig didn't play for Double-A Chattanooga on Friday night was the simplest of sorts. No, he wasn't en route to Baltimore to join the Dodgers. Instead, Puig was placed on the seven-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Puig hit .333/.385/.625 in Double-A, acclimating himself quite nicely to the Southern League with three home runs, three doubles, a triple, and two stolen bases in 13 games.

Puig hit .517/.500/.828 (30-for-58) with three home runs during spring training, and carried that over to the start of his season with the Lookouts. He was hitting .414/.469/.759 through his first eight games of the season, though he hit just .211 (4-for-19) with five strikeouts and a walk in his last five games.

Puig did hit a home run on Thursday night against Birmingham in his most recent game.
