Mark Ellis injury: Dodgers 2B strains right quad, leaves game

Ellis extended his hitting streak to six games on Friday night.

It appears the Dodgers injury bug isn't limited to only pitchers. Second baseman Mark Ellis pulled up lame while running to first base in the fifth inning on Friday night's game against the Brewers, appearing to suffer some sort of injury to his right leg. The Dodgers later announced the malady as a strained right quad.

Ellis, who was out on the ground ball to pitcher Hiram Burgos, limped off the field under his own power, but was replaced at second base to begin the top of the sixth by Nick Punto.

With Carl Crawford on first base to open the fifth inning, Ellis grounded a ball to the left of the pitcher's mound. The play advanced Crawford to second base but Ellis while running to first grabbed his right leg in pain.

The steady Ellis went 1-for-3 with a run scored on Friday and is hitting .342/.363/.452 on the season. He's also no stranger to injuries, as he last appeared in 150 games in a season in 2007. Over the last five years he has averaged 118 games per season.
