Minor League Player of the Day – Chris Withrow - 2 IP, 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 1 Walk, 3 K's. Withrow begins his AAA reliever career with a nice debut, he gets the win. The last 1st Round Dodger pick to win a game in AAA was Scott Elbert in 2011.
AAA – The Isotopes banged out 12 more hits on Saturda as they beat the Iowa Cubs 8-3 to go 3-0. Scott Van Slyke had 4 hits including a double and drove in 5. Elian Herrera had 2 hits and scored 2 runs and Alex Castellanos went 1 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Blake Johnson started and went 3 innings and gave up 3 runs and 5 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Red Patterson, Geison Aguasviva, and Josh Wall shut down the Cubs with Wall picking up the save.
AA –Yasiel Puig hit his first home run of the year but the Lookouts were unable to come back after a poor start by Chris Reed and loss to the Huntsville Stars, 5-4. Puig also struck out twice before hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th. Reed pitched 4+ innings, gave up 5 runs (4 earned), 5 hits, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Joc Pederson is still looking for his first hit in 2013 but he did steal his first stolen base.
HiA – Quakes won their second game of the season as all but one batter had at least one hit, as the Quakes beat the Lake Elsinore Storm 8-7. Outfielder Noel Cuevas and catcher Pratt Maynard each had 3 hits and O'koyea Dickson hit his first home run of the year. Garrett Gould made the start and gave up 5 runs, 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Craig Stem, who blew the save, got the win and Michael Thomas got his second save.
LoA – The Loons lost their third game as they remain winless at 0-3, yesterday, they were never in the game, losing 13-0 to the Huntsville Stars. Jharel Cotton made his first start and in 4.1 innings, gave up 6 runs, 5 hits, and 2 walks. Cotton did strike out 6. Ralston Cash pitched next and he struck out 8 in 3.2 innings but he also allowed 2 home runs and 6 unearned runs altogether. The Loons only had 4 hits, Corey Seager had none as he went 0-3 with a strikeout and a walk. Seager remains 0 for 2013 at this early date.
Coming up –Javy Guerra starts in Albuquerque as the Isotopes go for the 4-game sweep, Guerra isn't being converted to a starter but will be stretched out a bit. Lookouts still searching for first win, will play two 7-inning games against the Stars. The Lookouts starters are not known at this time but it is likely that it will be Aaron Miller and Rob Rasmussen. Ross Stripling takes the mound for the Quakes. Carlos Frias will try to help the Loons get their first win of the year.
