Minor League Player of the DayCarlos Frias (LoA) - 7 IP, 1 earned run, 1 walks, 8 hits. There really weren't many options for this award on Wednesday so I'm giving it to Frias even though he allowed 8 hits and only struck out 3. That being said Carlos has been outstanding for the Loons this season as his 1.59 ERA ranks 3rd in the Midwest League.

AAA – Off day

AA – The Lookouts lost to the Blue Wahoos (Reds) 4 to 3 in 10 innings on Wednesday. Starter Rob Rasmussen was solid as he allowed a pair of solo homers but virtually nothing else in 6 innings of work, striking out 5 in the process. Michael Thomas got through the 7th, but after Chattanooga took the lead in the 8th he allowed a couple of base runners and one came around to tie the contest once Jose Dominguez entered the game. Aaron Miller entered the game in the 10th and the game ended quickly after that as a hit by pitch and two singles plated the winning run. On offense Yasiel Puig went 2 for 4 with a triple, while Omar Luna had two singles and knocked in two of the runs. Joc Pederson had an RBI double in 5 at bats to keep his hitting streak alive.

HiA Ted Lilly had another rough rehab start as Rancho fell to the Giants 4 to 3. Lilly, who could be considered part of the Quakes' rotation as he has already started for them 3 times this season (and lost them all), allowed 5 hits, 3 walks, and 4 runs over 5 frames. He threw 75 pitches. Scott Elbert threw in relief and gave up a hit and a walk, but he got through the inning without any damage. Raydel Sanchez and Pedro Baez combined to finish the game with 3 shutout frames, but the Rancho offense wasn't able to make up the ground they needed for comeback. Noel Cuevas went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI while O'Koyea Dickson also doubled and plated a run, but that was about it for the hitting highlights.

LoA – The Loons got some solid pitching on Wednesday as they defeated South Bend (Dbacks) 4 to 1. Starter Carlos Frias gets most of the credit as he tossed 7 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 8 hits. Geoff Brown made his 2013 debut and threw a shutout inning, while closer Scott Griggs struck out 2 in his perfect frames to record his 4th save of the year. At the plate Kevin Taylor went 2 for 4 with a homer, his first of the season, while Tyler Ogle had a couple of singles. James Baldwin also had 2 base knocks and stole his 13th base of the season.

Coming up – All teams return to the field tomorrow, and Ross Stripling will highlight the action as he takes the mound for Chattanooga. Angel Sanchez will throw for the Loons, Blake Johnson gets the ball for the Isotopes, and James Campbell will start for the Quakes.
