The Dodgers made a roster move for a second consecutive day but they head into Coors Field Friday night without a new center fielder for their series with the Rockies. Skip Schumaker gets the start in center field on Friday, the third center fielder in three days for the Dodgers.
Carl Crawford gets a night of rest one night after tweaking his back with a second inning catch on Thursday in Anaheim. Scott Van Slyke gets the call in left field, batting fifth.
Batting cleanup is Ramon Hernandez, who homered and doubled on Thursday. He is 9-for-30 (.300) with three doubles and a home run against Rockies starter Jon Garland, though the two haven't faced one another since 2010. That home run came an eternity ago, in 2003, and from 2007-2010 Hernandez is 3-for-16 (.188) with a double against Garland. Hernandez was designated for assignment by the Rockies at the end of spring training, then traded to the Dodgers on Apr. 6.
Hernandez is catching for A.J. Ellis, out a second straight day. Ellis told Ken Gurnick of MLB.com that he's day-to-day with a strained oblique, an injury that bothers him while batting.
Mark Ellis is batting leadoff for the Dodgers for the first time in 2013. He batted leadoff 31 times in 2012.
- Peter Moylan will wear number 41 with the Dodgers, the number last worn by Aaron Harang, though Harang never pitched for the Dodgers with that number. The last No. 41 to play for the Dodgers was Rubby De La Rosa.
- Moylan will be the 20th Dodger to throw a pitch for the Dodgers this season. The franchise record is 25 pitchers used, set in 1998, 2009 and 2012.
- Hanley Ramirez begins his minor league rehab assignment Friday night with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, in Bakersfield. The 7:30 p.m. PT game can be listened to online.
- The Dodgers signed 18-year-old right-handed pitcher Kevin Guzman out of Aragua, Venezuela.
