Minor League Player of the Day – Blake Johnson (AAA) - 7 IP, 2 hits , 0 runs, 3 walks, 5 K's. The Dodgers 2nd round pick in the 2004 draft is finally paying dividends for the Isotopes in 2013 as his 3.36 ERA ranks 2nd on the club and his 51 strikeouts is best on the team.
AAA – The Albuquerque pitching staff threw a great game on Friday as Isotopes defeated the Redbirds (Cardinals) 2 to 0. Starter Blake Johnson allowed just 2 hits over 7 shutout frames in his best outing of the season, then Chris Withrow and Josh Wall followed with a hitless inning each. At the plate Alex Castellanos connected on his 8th homer of the year, while Justin Sellers drove home the only other run with a RBI single.
AA – After holding the BayBears to 3 runs over 3 games earlier this week, Mobile finally bounced back and shutout the Lookouts 2 to 0 on Friday. Chattanooga had just 2 hits in this game, with one single coming from Rafael Ynoa and the other coming from catcher Jan Vazquez. Outfielders Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig combined to go 0 for 7 with 4 K's in this game. On the bump starter Rob Rasmussen threw well as he gave up just 5 hits and 2 runs over 7 frames, striking out 7 in the process. Greg Infante got the final 3 outs but at that point it was too late for a Chattanooga comeback.
HiA – The Blaze doubled up on the Quakes as Bakersfield downed Rancho 14 to 7 on Friday. Starter Duke von Schamann allowed 10 hits and 7 runs over 4 frames, in his worst outing of the season, then Joel Lima permitted 5 runs to score in his first appearance for Rancho. At the plate Ryan Mount went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI's to increase his average to .342, while Scott Schebler hit his 6th homer of the season. Hanley Ramirez, making his first rehab appearance while playing shortstop, went 0 for 2 with a walk, a strikeout, and a RBI groundout.
LoA – The Loons scored 3 runs on Friday, but they still lost to the Lugnuts (Blue Jays) 5 to 3. 16 year old starter Julio Urias allowed 1 run on 6 weak hits while striking out 2 over 3.2 innings while getting his feet wet. Five different relievers came in to try and limit the damage for Great Lakes, but the two runs given up by Sawil Gonzalez made the difference in this one. At the plate the Loons had just 7 hits, and only 2 went for extra bases as Jeremy Rathjen connected on his 2nd homer of the season while Leo Rodriguez hit a double. Nobody else did much for the Loons other than Aaron Miller who went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles.
Coming up – Ross Stripling starts for the Lookouts on Saturday while Gustavo Gomez takes the mound for the Quakes. Aaron Laffey gets the ball for the Isotopes but the Loons starter is yet to be determined. Also, the DSL season starts on Saturday and that team should be very interesting this year with all the foreign players the Dodgers signed this off-season.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: As we all know by now Peter Moylan had his contract selected by the Dodgers, while Javy Guerra returned to Albuquerque. Also Sean White was activated from the DL.
