Minor League Player of the DayTony Gwynn Jr. (AAA) - 4 for 5, 1 SB. Not a whole lot to chose from on Wednesday so I'm giving the award to Gwynn. The 4 hits boosted Tony's average to .315, and he has an OPS of 1.126 over his last 10 games.

AAA – The Isotopes collected 13 hits in this game, but only 2 went for extra bases in Albuquerque's 4 - 2 loss to Round Rock (Rangers). Tony Gwynn had 4 singles in 5 at bats and stole a base, but he didn't have any RBI's or runs to show for it. Sames goes for Elian Herrera who went 3 for 4 with a double. Jeremy Moore's two bagger was the club's other extra base hit, while Nick Buss recorded the only RBI with a pinch hit single. On the mound Aaron Laffey technically had a quality start, but he didn't look good doing it as he allowed 7 hits and 4 walks over 6 innings to go along with 3 runs. Geison Aguasviva struggled in relief while Sean White recorded 4 outs without giving up a hit.

AA – Off day

HiA Garrett Gould had his first awful outing since April as the Quakes fell to the Storm (Padres) 8 to 2. After allowing 3 runs or less in 7 of his last 8 starts (and he only gave up 4 runs in the other outing), Gould got rocked for 6 runs on 9 hits (including 2 homers) over 5 innings on Wednesday. 5 of those runs scored in the first two frames which means that Garrett was able to settle down some, but overall it was not a good performance. Joel Lima permitted a couple of unearned runs to score after 3rd baseman Bladimir Franco committed his third error in just his second game, then Pedro Baez and Eric Eadington got through the final two frames without any issues. At the dish Franco made up for his error by driving in both Rancho runs, while Scott Schebler's double was the only extra base hit for the Quakes. A.J. Ellis was again hitless in his second rehab game, going 0 for 3 as the DH in this one.

LoA – The Loons needed a walk-off hit to keep their winning streak alive as Great Lakes beat West Michigan 3 - 2 in 11 innings. With 2 outs in the final frame Robbie Garvey singled and quickly stole 2nd base, then Malcolm Holland delivered the game winner in the form of a line drive single to left. Outside of the late excitement there weren't many offensive highlights as James Baldwin had the only multi-hit game and the only extra base hit for the Loons as he went 2 for 5 with a double and a RBI. Starter Angel Sanchez threw well as he allowed just 2 runs over 7 innings, striking out 6 along the way. Once he left the Great Lakes bullpen was excellent as Owen Jones, Craig Stem, and Arismendy Ozoria shutout the opposition on 2 hits over 4 innings.

DSL – The Dominican Dodgers combined on a 2-hitter on Wednesday as they shutout the A's 3 to 0. Starter Francisco Martinez was excellent as he allowed just 2 hits over 6 shutout innings, but before you get too excited it should be noted that Martinez is already 21 years old. A trio of relievers finished the game with 3 hitless innings, with 18 year old Jose Escudero recording the save. At the dish 16 year old Michael Medina went 2 for 4 and connected on his first home run as a pro. Nobody else had an extra base hit, although Nelson Palmer did go 2 for 3.

Coming up – Youngster Zach Bird will throw for the Loons on Thursday, while Lindsey Caughel will get the ball for the Quakes. Matt Palmer is the scheduled starter for the Isotopes while the Lookouts pitcher is TBD.
