After 15 of their last 20 games at home and 17 of their last 20 nights sleeping in their own beds, the Dodgers hit the road for a nine-game road trip beginning Friday in Pittsburgh. Here is a look at the pitching matchups for the three-game series with the Pirates at PNC Park:
Friday, 4:05 p.m. (Prime Ticket)
Stephen Fife has allowed three runs and struck out 12 in 12 innings in two starts since returning from the disabled list. A.J. Burnett has seven consecutive quality starts at home and leads the National League with 99 strikeouts.
UPDATE: On Thursday the Pirates announced Burnett would be scratched Friday with "a right calf issue," per Tom Singer of MLB.com. Jeff Locke will now pitch Friday instead of Saturday, per James Santelli of the PirateProspects.com.
Saturday, 1:05 p.m. (KCAL)
Clayton Kershaw has a 3.33 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 27 innings over his last four starts, but he is 0-2 during that span and the Dodgers have lost three of those four games. Jeff Locke has allowed three earned runs or less in his last 10 starts, with a 1.66 ERA during that span. In his last start, on Sunday, Locke took a no-hitter into the sixth inning though he had seven walks in 5⅔ innings.
Saturday's starter is now TBD.
Sunday, 10:35 a.m. (Prime Ticket, TBS)
Zack Greinke gets the call in the finale on Sunday morning, looking to last seven innings for the third straight start. Gerrit Cole did the Lord's work in beating the Giants in his major league debut, and now the former UCLA standout gets to face the Dodgers in his second MLB start.
