Dodgers 6/15/13 minor league report - Isotpoes win despite on-field rukus

11 players were thrown out of the game that was played in Albuquerque on Saturday

Minor League Player of the DayBrian Cavazos-Galvez (AA) - 2 for 2, 1 grand slam, 1 2B, 5 RBI's. While Jonathan Garcia could have won this award for the second day in a row, I'm giving this honor to BCG after he connected on a pinch hit grand slam then later drove in another run with a double. While Brian hasn't made a name for himself in 2013, he has an OPS of 1.008 over his last 10 games and is hitting .294 for the season.

AAA – The Isotopes were involved in a crazy game on Saturday, but at the end of the day they came out on top as Albuquerque defeated Memphis (Cardinals) 13 to 10. There was bad blood between these two clubs from the get go, and in total 11 players were ejected from this game. Jeremy Moore had the biggest impact in this contest as he connected on a 3-run homer before getting tossed, while Brian Barden and Dee Gordon both plated a pair. Catcher Matt Wallach continued his hot streak as he went 2 for 5 with a RBI. On the mound Rob Rasmussen struggled as he gave up 5 hits, 4 walks, and 6 runs over 4 innings, but it should be noted that this was his first start in Albuquerque. Kelvin De La Cruz permitted a couple of runs in relief while Geison Aguasviva recorded his first save of the year after throwing in the 12th.

AA – The Lookouts reached the .500 mark on Saturday with a 8 - 1 win over the Stars (Brewers). Most of the scoring came in the 6th inning when Chattanooga scored 5 of their runs. Brian Cavazos-Galvez had the big hit as he crushed a pinch hit grand slam, and he also drove in another run later in the game with a double. Rafael Ynoa went yard as well and finished the night 2 for 5, while Blake Smith went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a walk. Starter Andres Santiago allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings, but he also walked 4 and permitted one run to score. Onelki Garcia tossed 2 innings of scoreless relief and struck out 4, then Hector Nelo threw the final frame to solidify the win.

HiA – The Quakes were involved in a back and forth game on Saturday, but at the end of the day Stockton (A's) defeated Rancho 7 to 6. The good guys were looking good after they scored 3 in the 8th to take a one run lead, but closer Eric Eadington permitted a run in the 9th then two more in the 10th to record the loss. Going back to the beginning of the game starter Carlos Frias made his 2013 California debut and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk. Freddie Cabrera and Daniel Coulombe limited the damage in relief prior to Eadington coming into the game. At the dish Jonathan Garcia had another huge contest with his second 4-hit game in a row, and while he didn't take one deep it was his triple in the bottom of the 8th that tied the game. Scott Schebler went 3 for 5 with a double, while Darnell Sweeney connected on the only homer for Rancho.

LoA Game 1 – The Loons lost the first game of their double header on Saturday, falling to the Captains (Indians) 5 to 2. Arismendy Ozoria made his first start of the season and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, with two of those leaving the yard. Geoff Brown threw the final 1.2 frames of the shortened contest and gave up the final run. At the dish Joe Winker, who just joined the club a few weeks back, broke a season long slump with a solo homer, but that was the only extra base hit of the game for Great Lakes. Leo Rodriguez had the only other notable performance as he went 2 for 4.

LoA Game 2 – Great Lakes had a better performance in their nightcap, but they got swept by Lake County with a 4 - 3 loss. Every player in the Loons lineup but one had a hit in this game, and the one player that didn't, James Baldwin, recorded a RBI. Unfortunately most of the base knocks were singles, as Aaron Miller's 3rd homer of the year was the only one that left the yard. Malcolm Holland went 2 for 2, while Tyler Ogle had a pinch hit double. On the mound Brandon Martinez made his 2013 debut, but he lasted just 3.1 innings after allowing 5 hits, 4 walks, and 3 runs. Jordan Hershiser also made his first appearance of the 2013 season in this one, and he was charged with the loss even though he struck out 4 in two innings and didn't allow an earned run.

DSL – The Dominican Dodgers were outlasted by the Red Sox on Saturday in a 6 - 5, 12 inning loss. The Dodgers were all set to lose without extra innings, but in the 9th they tied the game thanks to a 2-run homer by Michael Media which was followed up by a Ariel Sandoval inside the park homer, although he was only credited with a triple and scored on the error. That was about it for the offensive highlights as nobody else had an extra base hit in the game. Going back to the beginning of the game, starter Angel German did not allow an earned run over 3 innings of work. Once he left 6 relievers had varying degrees of success, including Diomailin Rosario who allowed back to back doubles in the bottom of the 12th which resulted in the game winning run.

Coming up – 16 year old Julio Urias makes the 5th start of his career for the Loons on Sunday, while Duke von Schamann gets the ball for the Lookouts. Red Patterson throws for the Isotopes and Gustavo Gomez will be the starter for the Quakes.

Minor League Transactions – LoA: The Loons made quite a few moves on Saturday. Catcher Eric Smith was placed on the DL, and to replace him on the roster the club brought up Johnathan Linares, who was the other solid catching prospect in the DSL in 2012 besides Josmar Cordero. To be honest I'm not sure where Cordero is, but with the rookie leagues starting next week I expect him to be on one of those rosters. The other move was that Jordan Hershiser was added to the team while Miguel Sulbaran was moved to Ogden for the time being.
