The Dodgers and Yankees waited 32 years before playing one another in New York, so what's another day. The opener to their scheduled interleague series was postponed on Tuesday by rain. The two teams instead will play a split doubleheader on Wednesday, with games at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m PT.
Hyun-jin Ryu will face Hiroki Kuroda in the day game on Wednesday on KCAL, with Chris Capuano and Phil Hughes starting the night game on Prime Ticket, per Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News and Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times.
The Dodgers will need to make a corresponding roster move before the night cap Wednesday to activate Capuano from the disabled list.
This throws the Dodgers' starting rotation into a bit of disarray, With Capuano and Ryu on Wednesday that means the Dodgers will need another starting pitcher on Sunday in San Diego, as it is highly unlikely that either one would be asked to pitch on three days rest.
That leaves the Dodgers with one option on the 40-man roster, Matt Magill, whose last two MLB starts have been disasters, with a combined 15 walks and 14 runs allowed. Magill is scheduled to start Game 1 of a doubleheader on Wednesday at 10:05 a.m. PT.
The other options are all in Double-A Chattanooga, and all off the 40-man roster. Zach Lee, 21, is scheduled to start Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. PT for the Lookouts, so if he is scratched that will mean something. Chris Reed, 23, is scheduled to start Thursday. Duke von Schamann, 22, was just promoted to Double-A last week but in his first two starts with the Lookouts won Southern League Pitcher of the Week.
It's hard to see the Dodgers adding one of these pitchers for just a spot start.
But the other options in Triple-A are both not on the 40-man roster and unsavory options. Aaron Laffey started Monday for the Isotopes, and Jonathan Sanchez, for those of you asking, has yet to pitch for Albuquerque since signing a minor league contract with the Dodgers in May.
Or Sunday could simply be a bullpen game. We should know in the next few days.
This is the second rainout of the season for the Dodgers, who were washed out in Baltimore on Apr. 19. The two teams played a doubleheader the next day.
