Dodgers 6/28/13 minor league report - AA Ross Stripling pitches 8 inning 2-hitter with 0 runs and 4 strikeouts

Minor League Player of the DayJ.D. Underwood - 3 IP, 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 1 BB, 6 K. The Dodgers 2013 5th round pick out of Palm Beach State (JC), Florida had a great 3 innings in his debut.

AAA – After dropping the opener of the four game series, Albuquerque came back on Friday, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 8th as the Isotopes defeated Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) 4 to 3. Dee Gordon went 3 for 4, scoring twice and hitting his 6th AAA triple. Justin Sellers drove in 2 in the important 8th inning. Blake Johnson pitched 6 1-run innings; Josh Wall pitched an uneventful 8th inning and Steve Ames closed it out, for Ames it was his 8th save.

AA – Ross Stripling had his best start, an 8 inning, no runs, 2 hits and 4 strikeouts gem, leading the Lookouts over Biscuits (Rays) 5 to 0. Stripling won his 4th start in a row, Jharel Cotton pitched an uneventful 9th. Joc Pederson had 2 singles, stole a base and scored 2 runs, Sean Burroughs had a good day at the plate with 2 hits in 2 at bats, including a double and 2 walks.

HiA – A tight pitching game was won on the most unlikely of ways, as Scott Schebler hit a walk-off grand slam to help the Quakes beat the JetHawks (Astros) 6 to 3. Gustavo Gomez started for the Quakes and had a good 6 innings with only 1 run allowed with 2 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Eric Eadington won his first game of the year by pitching a scoreless top of the 9th. The Quakes trailed 3 to 1 going to the bottom of the 9th, but then 2 errors and 2 singles scored 1 and loaded the bases for Scott Schebler and he hit his 11th home run of the year to win the game.

LoAJulio Urias continues to be one of the more exciting stories to follow in the Dodger minor league system, Urias made his 7th start as the Loons won their 4th straight, 6 to 2, sweeping their 3-game series against the Captains (Indians). Urias pitched 4 2/3, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. Luis Meza would get the win and Crayton Bare finished the game. The Loons did all their damage in one inning, scoring 6 runs in the top of 3rd inning. James Baldwin would lead off that inning with a double, and soon after hits by Robbie Garvey, Tyler Ogle, Aaron Miller, Jeremy Rathjen and finally Brandon Dixon, who drove in the last 2 runs with a single, would give the Loons the lead and eventually the game.

Rookie – Ogden scored early and kept Idaho Falls off the scoreboard for the most part, giving the Raptors a 7 - 3 win in over the Chukars (Royals). Starter Victor Araujo was not as sharp as he was in his first start, going only 4 innings with 4 hits 2 runs, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Jordan Hershiser pitched 3 innings, with 1 run, 3 hits and 4 strikeouts and Jacob Rhame pitched 2 scoreless innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts. Offensively, Pat Stover went 3 for 5 and 2 RBI, Alex Santana had a single and a walk and a RBI, and Hank Yates went 1 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.

Rookie Arizona – In a game where it was 107 degrees at the start, the Arizona Dodgers went extra innings before defeating the Royals 6 to 5. Rookie games must be something to see, this one had 5 errors between the two teams, 27 total strikeouts and 14 total walks. 6 pitchers toed the rubber for the Dodgers, including the professional debut of Dodger 5th Round pick, J.D. Underwood. Underwood had one of the few clean outings, in his 3 innings, he allowed 1 hit and 1 walk with 3 ground ball outs and 6 strikeouts. Nelson Sandoval did not have a good outing, getting just 2 outs and giving up 2 runs, 2 hits and a walk. Wascar Teodo, No. 92 on Brandon Lennox's 2013 Dodger prospect list, got his 2nd win of the year. No Dodger had more than one hit, James McDonald went 1 for 3 with 3 walks, 2 runs scored and an RBI, Adam Law also went 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.

DSL Game 1 – The Dominican Dodgers lost 8 - 4 to the A's in a make-up game for June 27th canceled game. Deivy Castillo was the offensive star, going 2 for 3 with a walk. Dennys Chica pitched 3 innings, giving up a run with 1 hit, a walk and 2 strikeouts.

DSL Game 2 – The regularly scheduled game didn't go any better for the Dominican Dodgers as they lost again to the A's, this time 8 to 2. Deivy Castillo again went 2 for 3 and Michael Medina hit his 3rd home run of the year.

Coming upMatt Palmer starts for the Isotopes, Zach Lee pitches for the Lookouts, Jon Michael Redding is on the mound for the Quakes, Arismendy Ozoria is the starter for the Loons, and Zachary Bird makes his 2013 debut for Raptors. The Arizona Dodgers are off and DSL starter isn't known at this time

Minor League Transactions – Rancho Cucamonga sent RHP James Campbell to Arizona Dodgers on rehab assignment, assigned RHP Matt Sheldon to Ogden Raptors and outfielder Jon Garcia to Chattanooga. Chattanooga assigned Blake Smith as a RHP to Rancho Cucamonga. See more about Blake Smith here. Rancho Cucamonga also activated outfielder Devin Shines from the disabled list.
