2013 MLB Draft results: Dodgers pick C Kyle Farmer in 8th round

Farmer played shortstop at Georgia, but the Dodgers see him behind the plate as a pro.

The Dodgers on Friday in the 8th round of the 2013 MLB Draft selected Kyle Farmer with the No. 244 overall pick. Farmer played shortstop with the University of Georgia, but the Dodgers listed him as a catcher.

Farmer, a college senior, was drafted as a shortstop by the Yankees in the 35th round in 2012, but did not sign. The 22-year-old hit .290/.315/.410 with three home runs and 44 RBI in 52 games. He is listed at 6'0", 200 pounds.

“I’ve heard from a bunch of teams. Hopefully somebody will give me a chance, and I think they will. Hopefully that will be in the top 10 or 12 rounds. That’s what I’ve heard so far," Farmer told the Athens Banner-Herald on Thursday. "Some want me to catch. Some want me to play shortstop or second base. But I’m willing to play anywhere just to get a chance.”

The assigned slot bonus for the No. 244 overall pick is $153,600, per Baseball America.
