The Dodgers continue their trek through the National League West on Friday night when they open a weekend series against the Giants at AT&T Park. San Francisco was rained out on Thursday in Cincinnati and pushed all their pitchers back one day. Here is a look at the weekend schedule and pitching matchups in San Francisco.
Friday, 7:15 p.m. (Prime Ticket)
Hyun-jin Ryu has allowed 26 hits in 19 innings against the Giants this season, including at least eight in all three starts against them. But he also has allowed just eight total runs in those three starts, including six earned for a 2.84 ERA. Matt Cain owned a 5.45 ERA as late as June 1 but has allowed seven runs in his last five starts for a 1.82 ERA. The Dodgers have scored one run in 13⅓ innings against Cain this year, but they lost the game in which they scored off him and won the game in which he didn't allow a run.
Saturday, 4:15 p.m. (Fox)
Three straight quality starts and a 2.21 ERA in six June starts have given Stephen Fife a strong hold on a rotation spot. He has just five strikeouts and five walks in 13 innings in two career starts against the Giants, but also sports a 2.08 ERA and the Dodgers have won both games. Madison Bumgarner has pitched seven innings in each of his last four stars, including a loss to the Dodgers on June 24. The Dodgers got to Bumgarner for three runs in those seven innings, which must have seemed like 10 after 16 shutout innings in his previous two starts against them.
Sunday, 1:05 p.m. (Prime Ticket)
We all know about Clayton Kershaw's dominant career numbers against the Giants (10-4, 1.33 ERA) but his numbers are even more ridiculous in San Francisco. He has allowed six total runs in eight starts at AT&T Park and in 61⅔ innings has a 0.73 ERA with 58 strikeouts and 15 walks. Chad Gaudin, who is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in four starts since joining the Giants' rotation, will be activated from the disabled list and is expected to start the Sunday finale for San Francisco, though the rain day off gives the Giants some flexibility. Tim Lincecum was originally slated to start Sunday before the rain pushed every one back.
