Minor League Player of the Day – Scott Schebler (HiA) - 4 for 5, 2 HR's, 1 3B, 3 RBI's, 3 Runs. Schebler moved his batting average above .300 with the big game, and he probably has the quietest 15 homers and .970 OPS in the Dodgers system right now.
AAA – The Isotopes bullpen had a late meltdown as Albuquerque fell to the Cubs 9 to 5. The Topes actually had a 5 - 3 lead heading into the 9th after Matt Palmer's quality start, but Steve Ames gave up a two out, 2-run homer that tied the game. Then in the 10th Red Patterson allowed 4 more runs, although they were all unearned due to a Dee Gordon throwing error. There wasn't too much action from the offense in this one outside Alex Castellanos' 2 for 3 day that included a double, a homer, and 3 RBI's.
AA – In a game that lasted just 5 innings due to rain, the Lookouts shutout the Suns (Marlins) 2 to 0. Starter Zach Lee was outstanding in this game as he allowed just 3 hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out 5 to get the "complete game" victory. Lee's ERA is now at 2.79 and opposing batters are hitting .233 against him. At the dish J.T. Wise drove in both runs with a double, while Osvaldo Martinez went a perfect 2 for 2 and had a double as well.
HiA – The Quakes took a beating from the Mavericks (Mariners) on Thursday in a 12 to 6 loss. Almost all of the damage was charged to starter Gustavo Gomez who was left in to allow 10 runs on 12 hits over 4 frames. Raydel Sanchez gave up the final two runs in relief. Despite the loss Scott Schebler had a huge game at the plate as he went 4 for 5 with 2 homers, a triple, 3 RBI's, and 3 runs scored. Noel Cuevas also homered while O'Koyea Dickson collected a rare triple.
LoA – The Loons got contributions from almost on offense as Great Lakes defeated West Michigan (Tigers) 7 to 5. Everyone in the lineup except for Aaron Miller had a hit in this one, and six different players drove in a run. Robbie Garvey had the only multi-hit game as he went 2 for 4 with a double, while James Baldwin and Jeremy Rathjen had two-baggers as well. Starter Geoff Brown threw well in his first start of the year as he allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits over 5 frames to earn his 7th win of the season. Crayton Bare ran into some trouble in relief as he gave up 2 runs, but Craig Stem shut the door to record his 9th save of the season.
Rookie Ogden – Not much to see here as the Raptors got crushed by the Owlz (Angels) 11 to 2 on Thursday. Justin Chigbogu had a big game in his Ogden debut as he went 3 for 4 with a double and Pat Stover had a single, a double, and a RBI, but that was it for the offensive highlights. Starter Zach Bird allowed just 2 hits over 4 innings, but one of them left the yard and he also walked 4 so the result that her gave up 6 runs in total. Jordan Hershiser struggled in relief as he permitted 4 runs over 3 frames, although he did strike out 5.
Rookie Arizona – Off day
DSL – The Dominican Dodgers were put out of their misery early on Thursday as they were shutout 2 to 0 by the Royals in a game that lasted just 5 innings due to rain. The Dodgers were held to just 3 hits, with one of them being a triple by Ibandel Isabel. Surprising they actually outhit the opposition as Angel German and Dennys Chica combined to allow just 2 hits between them, but a couple of unearned runs in the 3rd inning were the difference in this game.
Coming up – Jonathan Sanchez starts for the Isotopes, Chris Reed goes for the Lookouts, Lindsey Caughel is scheduled for the Quakes, 2013 1st round pick Chris Anderson throws for the Loons, and Scott Barlow gets the ball for the Raptors.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: Javy Guerra was activated from the DL while Blake Johnson was placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation. HiA: Bobby Coyle was placed on the DL and Matt Shelton was promoted to the Quakes from LoA. Rookie: 2013 draft picks J.D. Underwood and Rob Rogers were promoted to Ogden from Arizona.
