Dodgers continuing to win no matter where they play, will host the Red Sox for three, beginning with tonight's matchup of Ricky Nolasco vs. John Lackey.
The Dodgers won both series on the last road trip, making it 18 consecutive straight series without a series loss. In comparison to the other 29 MLB teams, the only other teams to go into double digits in undefeated series streakdom are the Cardinals and Rays who each had 13 series streaks. Atlanta, Oakland and Texas are next with 8 series in a row. All of those streaks contained at least one tied series.
The last time the Dodgers had a 75-52 record was in 2009 (however, that team was 47-25 instead of 30-42, a 17 game difference to make up). The last time the Dodgers led the division by 9.5 games this late in the season was in 1988 (they led by 9.5 games in September).
JP Hoornstra of the LA Daily News looked back at last year's trade here. Kasten and Colletti told the Daily News that for this new ownership group, the trade accomplished what they were looking for.
"It worked out for where we were as a franchise and what we were trying to do in the short term," Kasten said, "to provide us the foundation of credibility we needed with our fanbase, and to give us time to build in the long term."
"I think it showed everybody that this ownership group was real," Colletti added. "Its desire to win and to put as good a club on the field as possible as quick as possible showed not only with that trade, but that was the exclamation point to the earlier deals."
Late last night, Bill Shaikin of the LA Times reported that the Dodgers will announce today that Vin Scully will return in 2014 for his 65th season broadcasting Dodger baseball.
