Dodgers 8/26/13 minor league report - 3 wins, 3 losses

The 6 minor league affiliates split the day on Monday as the Isotopes, Quakes, and Arizona Dodgers all won while the Lookouts, Loons, and Raptors all lost

Minor League Player of the Day Victor Arano (Arizona Rookie) - 5 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 7 K's.  I almost gave this award to Zach Bird, but the 7 strikeouts by Arano put him over the top.

AAA – The Isotopes outlasted the Express (Rangers) 6 to 5 on Monday. Starter Jonathan Sanchez got hit hard as he allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, but he was still able to record the win and he also struck out 8.  The Albuquerque bullpen was very good as a trio of relievers combined for 3 shutout innings, including Javy Guerra who recorded his 11th save.  At the plate Nick Buss went 2 for 4 with a couple of RBI's, and his double was the only extra base hit for the Topes.  Elian Herrera went 3 for 4 with a stolen base while Dee Gordon also had a couple of base knocks.

AA – Zach Lee gave up 3 home runs on Monday in the Lookouts 7 - 3 loss to the Generals (Mariners).  Outside of the 3 long balls allowed Lee actually threw pretty well as he only gave up 3 earned runs, struck out 6, and lasted 7 innings.  Michael Thomas had a rare off night in relief as he allowed 2 additional runs.  At the plate Jeremy Moore hit a 2-run homer and Joc Pederson connected on a double, but that was about it for the offensive highlights.

HiA – The Quakes pitching staff combined on a solid game as Rancho defeated Lancaster (Astros) 4 to 1.  After 30 relief appearances Matt Shelton made his first start of the year, and he looked good while doing it as he allowed just 4 hits and an unearned run over 3.2 frames.  A quartet of relievers followed and none of them allowed a run, culminating in Daniel Coulombe's first save of the year.  On offense Chris Jacobs hit a 2-run jack and O'Koyea Dickson went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI.  Corey Seager also knocked in a run with a two-bagger.

LoA – The Loons exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 9th to take a late lead, but their celebration was short lived as the Silver Hawks (Dbacks) came back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and walked away with a 8 - 7 win.  The loss wasted a solid effort from Zach Bird who allowed just 3 hits and 1 run over 5 innings.  Rob Rogers got beat up in relief as he gave up 5 runs, then Owen Jones was the one who blew the save in the 9th.  Kevin Taylor was a big part of the late run scoring as he knocked in 2, while Aaron Miller also drove in a pair. Devin Shines contributed with a couple of doubles.

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors had just 3 hits on Monday as they lost to Billings (Reds) 4 to 2Jesmuel Valentin had 2 of the 3 hits, both singles, while Jack Chaplin had the other base knock and drove in both Ogden runs.  On the mound there wasn't much excitement as Francisco Villa allowed 5 hits and 3 runs over 5 frames, then Billy Flamion gave up the final run of the game in relief.

Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers won their third to last game 8 to 2 against the D-backs.  18 year old starter Victor Arano threw well as he allowed just 4 hits over 5 innings and struck out 7 to record the win.  Wascar Teodo was also impressive in relief as he gave up just 1 hit over 3 frames.  At the plate Cody Bellinger drove in 3 runs with a double, while Paul Hoenecke went 2 for 3 with couple of walks.  Stefen Henderson was a perfect 2 for 2 and connected on first homer of his professional career.

DSL – Season over

Coming up – The Loons have the day off on Tuesday, but everyone else plays including Matt Magill and the Isotopes.  Rob Rasmussen will throw for the Lookouts, Lindsey Caughel will take the mound for the Quakes, and Victor Araujo will get the ball for the Raptors.
