Dodgers 8/27/13 minor league report - Isotopes eliminated from playoff contention

Albuquerque joins the Lookouts and the Dominican Dodgers as the three affiliates who will not make the playoffs in 2013

Minor League Player of the DayAdam Law (Ogden) - 5 for 5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 2 SB's.  Anytime you go 5 for 5 you are going to win the player of the day award, even if all the hits were singles.  The 2013 12th round pick out of BYU has had a solid professional debut, hitting well in both the Arizona Rookie League and now with the Raptors.

AAA – The Isotopes were eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday after a 8 - 5 loss to Round Rock (Rangers).  Starter Matt Magill just couldn't get it done as he allowed 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks in 6 frames, although he did punch out 7.  Anthony Ortega also struggled in relief as he gave up the 3 other runs.  Matt Angle led the offense with a 3 for 4 effort that left him just a homer shy of the cycle, while Alex Castellanos and Elian Herrera both went 2 for 4.

AA – The Lookouts were only able to push across 1 run on Tuesday as they fell to the Generals (Mariners) 4 to 1Griff Erickson's third homer in as many games accounted for the only run, and it also helped him to finally push his average above .200.  Rafael Ynoa went 3 for 5 with a double while Joc Pederson had a single and 2 walks over 5 plate appearances.  On the mound Rob Rasmussen threw relatively well and struck out 7, but he took the loss after allowing 2 runs over 5 frames.  Andres Santiago also permitted a pair of runs in a rare relief appearance.

HiA – The Quakes continue to stay alive in the playoff hunt as they defeated the Mavericks (Mariners) 7 to 5.  Despite a sub .500 record in the second half of the season Rancho is actually a game up on a playoff spot thanks to the fact that Lancaster won the division crown in both halves of the season.  Getting back to the contest at hand, O'Koyea Dickson had a big game as he went 2 for 3 with a homer and 3 RBI's.  Novel Cuevas also drove in 3 thanks to a trio of singles, while Scott Schebler was 3 for 5 with a pair of triples.  Starter Lindsey Caughel allowed 5 runs in his 7 innings of work, but only 1 of those runs were earned due to a Corey Seager error (he also went 0 for 4 at the plate with 3 K's).  Raydel Sanchez got the win in relief with a pair of shutout innings.

LoA – Off day

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors were bucked by the Mustangs (Reds) 6 to 4 despite a big game from Adam Law.  The 3rd baseman went 5 for 5 and stole a pair of bases in the loss, increasing his average to .364 for the season.  The only other offensive player worth mentioning is Joey Curletta as he drove in 3 on a single and a sac fly.  Starter Victor Araujo took the loss after allowing 4 runs over 5 frames, striking out 4 along the way.  Sawil Gonzalez gave up the final 2 runs in relief.

Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers lost their penultimate game of the regular season, 7 - 4 to the RedsVictor Gonzalez got hit hard early as he allowed 5 hits and 4 runs in just 2 innings of work, then Abdiel Velasquez gave up 2 more runs over the next 3 frames.  That deficit was too much for the offense to make up there were only a couple of notable performances.  Faustino Oguisten went 3 for 5 with a triple and a RBI, while James McDonald went 2 for 5 with a double.

DSL – Season over

Coming upJulio Urias highlights Wednesday's action as he takes the mound for the Loons, while Red Patterson will try to continue his success for the Isotopes.  Gustavo Gomez is the scheduled starter for the Quakes and Jose De Leon gets the call for Ogden.
