Dodgers minor league report August 2: Bobby Coyle hits 2 home runs, a prospect is moving on up

Dodgers minor league affiliates went 3-3 on Friday night, Matt Palmer pitched well in a Isotope loss, the Lookouts never put it all together this season and Corey Seager was promoted to Rancho Cucamonga.

Minor League Player of the Day: Bobby Coyle, 2007 10th round pick, outfielder, Rancho Cucamonga. Coyle hit two home runs on Friday night in the Quakes 9-7 win.

Triple-A: The Isotopes pitched well but couldn't score enough in their 3-2 loss at Sacramento (Athletics). Pitcher Matt Palmer scattered 8 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings but he still struck out 8. Alex Castellanos went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Double-A: The Lookouts didn't pitch or hit well in their a 7-0 defeat to Montgomery (Rays). Chattanooga continued its offensive drought and Joc Pederson has been one of the main culprits as he just completed a poor July (.697 OPS). The Lookouts staff were all over the place on Friday with 10 walks issued as well as the 8 hits and 7 runs.

High Class-A: Rancho Cucamonga turned up their offense in anticipation of the arrival of Corey Seager in their 9-7 win at Visalia (Diamondbacks). Bobby Coyle hit 2 home runs as previously mentioned, Chris Jacobs and Scott Wingo also had two hits. Jon Michael Redding allowed 10 hits and 4 runs in his 6 innings but did not walk any and struck out 5.

Low Class-A: Postponed due to rain.

Rookie (Ogden): The Raptors fell behind early and could not catch up in their 7-4 loss to Idaho Falls (Royals). J.D. Underwood was ineffective, 4 runs allowed in 3 innings, led to the Raptors falling behind by 5 runs. Brandon Trinkwon went 1 for 3 and then was ticketed to Great Lakes; Joey Curletta and Zach Babbit had two hits. The Raptors also had 4 errors.

Rookie (Arizona): The AZL Dodgers outscored the AZL Royals 9 to 7. Tiger Woods shot 61 on Friday and Tyger Pederson went 1 for 3 and 2 walks on Friday. Pederson has 7 walks in 25 plate appearances which probably has as much to do with the pitchers he is facing as well as his approach.

Rookie (Dominican): DSL Dodgers scored 9 runs in the first inning on their way to a 12-8 win over the DSL Mariners. Ariel Sandoval had 3 hits, including 2 doubles.

Transactions: Albuquerque Isotopes placed catcher Damaso Espino on the 7-day disabled list for a right calf strain. Pitcher Geison Aguasviva assigned to Rancho Cucamonga Quakes from Chattanooga Lookouts. Pitcher Jarret Martin assigned to Chattanooga Lookouts from Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes placed pitcher Jharel Cotton on the 7-day disabled list. Corey Seager assigned to Rancho Cucamonga Quakes from Great Lakes Loons. Brandon Trinkwon assigned to Great Lakes Loons from Ogden Raptors.

Coming up: Great Lakes pitcher Chris Anderson will start on the road against Lake County; Jonathan Sanchez starts for the Isotopes at Fresno. Lookouts Duke von Schamann will toe the rubber at Montgomery; Geison Aguasviva makes his first appearance for the Quakes and his first start at Visalia.
