Minor League Player of the Day – Joey Curletta, OF (Pioneer - Rookie - Ogden) 2012 6th Round draft pick, Joey Curletta has had a solid 2 of 3 months in Ogden, hitting .325/.374/.506 in August. Curletta, who will be 20 when next season begins, should get ready to spend his first full season at Great Lakes.
AAA – The Isotopes are spending their final weekend of the season in New Orleans as they took on the Zephyrs (Marlins) and they seemed to left their offense at home losing 5-0. Angel Castro started and he scattered 7 hits and a walk in 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs and striking out 4. But after a scoreless 7th, Javy Guerra gave up 3 runs in the 8th. John Baker had 2 of the 5 Isotope hits.
AA – The Lookouts continue to lose big, on Friday, they lost 12-1 to the Smokies (Cubs). Garret Gould has not had a successful 2013, his combined ERA in AA/HiA is over 6 or to put it another way, Gould has pitched 113 combined innings in both leagues this year, he has given up 85 earned runs in those innings. No player had more than 1 hit, Lookouts had 5 hits total. Joc Pederson took an 0-for on Friday night.
HiA – Matt Kemp and a sellout crowd could not inspire the Quakes to beat one of the Cal League's best teams, the JetHawks (Astros) as they lost in extra-innings 3-2. Matt Kemp played 7 innings in the field, took another 0-3 with 2 strikeouts. It is expected, Kemp will play again on Saturday night before being activated on Sunday. Jon Michael Redding started and pitched well, going 6.2 IP, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks, and he gave up 2 runs. Chris Jacobs homered in the loss.
LoA – The Loons played their final regular season home against the Dragons (Reds) losing 8-0. Perhaps they celebrated late into the morning but no one did anything right on Friday. Tom Windle was a lone bright spot, 5 IP, 4 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts, allowing just a run Ralston Cash pitched well too. An offense that produces a single hit isn't going to have anyone featured here.
Rookie Ogden – The Raptors defeated the Owls (Angels) 5 to 3. Scott Barlow took charge on the mound, scattering 6 hits and 3 walks. Joey Curletta was the player of the day with his 3 hits.
Rookie Arizona – Play their first playoff game on Saturday.
DSL – Season over
Coming up – Arizona Dodgers take on Rangers in their semifinals in their Rookie League, if the Dodgers win, they will proceed to the finals on Sunday. Jonathan Martinez starts for the Loons, Chris Reed ends his AA season against the Smokies, Francisco Villa toes the rubber for the Raptors, Matt Shelton goes for the Quakes and Matt Palmer represents the Isotopes on the mound.
Transactions - P Chris Withrow was optioned to AAA Albuquerque.
