Dodgers minor league report August 4: Matt Magill shines again, Corey Seager gets first hit for Quakes

Great Lakes was the only Dodgers affiliate to win on Sunday, as the teams at the top three levels each lost by one run.

USA TODAY Sports

Minor League Player of the Day: Sorry kids, but it is Matt Magill once again. Over his last three games Magill has pitched 17 innings, given up only two runs, walked eight, and struck out 25.

Triple-A: Magill pitched another strong game but the Isotopes still lost 2-1. Magill only gave up three hits in six innings, walked only three, struck out eight. Dee Gordon sat out the game.

Double-A: Hold the phones the Lookouts actually scored three runs in a game. They still lost 4-3, and Joc Pederson is still trying to fix the hole in this bat, going hitless once again. Jon Garcia is now 0-for-22 after going 0-for-4 on Sunday. I'm not sure what to make of the Lookouts punchless offense; no one can hit, not even the old veterans on the team. Chris Reed started six innings, giving up six hits, four runs, and four walks.

High Class-A: The Quakes lost 5-4 but the big news was Corey Seager getting his first hit for the Quakes. Chris Jacobs hit a home run and double to lead the offense. Gustavo Gomez started the game but Matt Shelton took the loss.

Low Class-A: The Loons won 7-1 behind strong relief pitching from Johnathan Martinez. Miguel Sulbaran started the game but went only three inning. Three perfect innings with three strikeouts. Martinez finished the game going six innings. Brandon Twinkdon replaced Corey Seager on the Loon roster, and collected his first hit for the Loons, a two run double.

Rookie (Ogden): The Raptors were crushed 12-3, and nobody pitched or hit well.

Rookie (Arizona): Did not play

Rookie (Dominican): Did not play

Transactions: Right-handed pitcher Craig Stem was promoted from Great Lakes to Rancho Cucamonga, and right-hander Alan Garcia returned to the Loons from Arizona.

Coming up: Zach Lee starts for Chattanooga on the road. Rob Rasmussen starts for Albuquerque. Brandon Martinez starts for Great Lakes. The Quakes have Monday off before returning home for Seager's home debut at Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday.
