Dee Gordon recalled, Stephen Fife optioned

The Dodgers got good news from Yasiel Puig and disappointing news from Hanley Ramirez.

Victor Decolongon

The Dodgers elected to promote shortstop Dee Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque, and sent starting pitcher Stephen Fife down to the minor leagues. The transaction doesn't surprise many after Hanley Ramirez's right shoulder injury Sunday.

Gordon sported a .308 average for the Isotopes with 29 RBI and 44 stolen bases. The speedy shortstop may be next in line to take over the starting duties if Ramirez needs further rest or a DL stint.

Meanwhile, Fife getting demoted will place temporary pause on his pursuit of the Dodgers fifth spot in the rotation. The underrated right-hander owns a 4-3 record and a 2.43 ERA.

Besides the transactions, Hanley Ramirez will sit out Monday as expected. The results of Ramirez's MRI haven't been announced yet. Therefore, savvy veteran Nick Punto receives the start at shortstop Monday.

Yasiel Puig re-enters the lineup after missing Sunday's game due to a left thumb contusion. The Cuban sensation bats cleanup because of Ramirez's absence, and second baseman Mark Ellis moves up to Puig's normal two spot.

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez also returns and bats third. Gonzalez solid season continues by hitting .297 with 15 home runs and 66 RBI.
