Yasiel Puig injury: Dodgers OF suffers mild right knee strain, leaves game

Yasiel Puig was removed from Monday's game against the Rockies in the sixth inning, after the Dodgers outfielder appeared to have some sort of an issue with his knee. The Dodgers announced that Puig left the game with a mild right knee strain.

Puig reached first base on a throwing error by third baseman Nolan Arenado to open the sixth inning, then advanced to third base on a single to right field by Adrian Gonzalez. But Puig appeared to over-slide the bag at third base and remained on the ground on his knees for a moment. He appeared to be shaken up a bit and in talking to third base coach Tim Wallach pointed to his knee.

The injury may have occurred for Puig while at first on a pickoff attempt by Rockies pitcher Jeff Manship. Replays on the KCAL television broadcast showed Puig appearing to tweak his knee while getting back to the bag.

Puig later scored with ease on a sacrifice fly to center field by Hanley Ramirez to give the Dodgers a 6-5 lead, but was walking slowly back to the dugout.

Skip Schumaker replaced Puig in right field to start the bottom of the sixth inning.

Puig had problems at Coors Field two months ago, when he ran into the right field wall and had to leave the game on July 3.

After the game, manager Don Mattingly said Puig had stiffness in his knee and that the outfielder wouldn't start on Tuesday, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. Puig said the knee has been an ongoing issue but today felt worse, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
