NL West Weekly Report: Dodgers keep rolling

A recap of what happened in the NL West from Aug. 29 to Sept. 4: the Dodgers just keep on winning, the Diamondbacks fall further back, and the bottom three teams stay below .500.

TEAM RECAPS:

Diamondbacks: Arizona was 2-4 last week. The Diamondbacks dropped two of three against the Giants at home. Arizona then lost two of three against Toronto at home. The Dbacks were almost swept by the Blue Jays, but in the final game of their series, but won on a walk-off single by Willie Bloomquist.

Rockies: Colorado was 3-3 last week. The Rockies won two of three against a tough Reds squad before dropping two of three against the Dodgers. Thanks to the high altitude in Denver, and timely hitting, Colorado averaged a ridiculous 6.3 runs per game.

Giants: San Francisco was 3-3 last week. The Giants won two of three against the Diamondbacks to start off the week. San Francisco then dropped two of three against San Diego. The Giants' pitching staff held opposing teams to an average of three runs per game while the offense scored on average of 4.7 runs per game thanks to a 13-5 win over the Padres to finish off the week.

Padres: San Diego was 2-4 this week. The Padres started off the week by getting swept by the Dodgers in LA. San Diego then took two of three from San Francisco. The Padres' averaged 1.3 runs per game against the Dodgers, while their pitching staff gave up on average 9.3 runs per game against Los Angeles. Two of the losses to LA were by a score of 2-1.

Dodgers: Los Angeles was 5-1 this week. The Dodgers started off the week by sweeping the Padres. LA then took two of three from Colorado on the road. Los Angeles' offense was once again very dominant, averaging 5.8 runs per game. The pitching staff wasn't as good, surrendering on average 3.8 runs per game.

WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THESE TEAMS NEXT WEEK?

Diamondbacks: Four games against the Giants, three games against the Dodgers

Rockies: Day off, three games against the Padres, three games against the Giants

Giants: Four games against the Diamondbacks, three games against the Rockies

Padres: Day off, three games against the Padres, day off, two games against the Phillies

Dodgers: Day off, three games against the Reds, three games against the Diamondbacks

OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer. The veteran hit .526 and had a home run and six RBIs. Cuddyer recorded 10 hits and 19 at-bats while walking once and striking out three times. The outfielder was also 1-2 in stolen base attempts.

BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE:

Dodgers' pitcher Zack Greinke against the Padres on Sunday September 1st. Greinke gave up one earned run on two hits over seven innings. The righty walked one and struck out seven while improving to 14-3 on the season. Greinke also lowered his ERA from 2.86 to 2.78.

OVERALL TEAM OF THE WEEK:

The Los Angeles Dodgers. LA was 5-1 this week and improved its division lead from 9.5 to 12.5 games over Arizona. Chris Capuano (1.29), Zack Greinke (1.29), and Hyun-Jin Ryu (1.42) all had ERAs under two this week.

WORST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK:

Padres' pitcher Eric Stults. The lefty gave up seven earned runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings against the Giants on Wednesday Sept. 4. Stults raised his season ERA from 3.81 to 4.07.
