Minor League Player of the Day – Chris Reed (AA) - 6 IP, 2 hits, 2 Runs, 2 BB, 9 K's, 1 HR. Chris Reed followed up his nice first start of the year with an impressive 6 inning outing. Marred only by a 2-run HR, Reed allowed one other hit and two walks while striking out 9, including 3 strikeouts in his final inning of work.
AAA – The Isotopes home opener was a low scoring game and the home team trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the 8th. However a 5-run inning gave the Isotopes a lead it would not lose as Albuquerque defeated Tacoma (Mariners) 6 to 3. Carlos Triunfel started the one-out rally with a single and then Joc Pederson singled. Three walks later, the Isotopes took the lead but then Nick Buss tripled in 3 to provide the final margin of victory. Zach Lee started the game and pitched well, going 5.2 innings, giving up a run, 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3. Yimi Garcia allowed 6 base runners with a run scoring to give the Rainiers their lead. Daniel Moskos got the win.
AA – A late rally to tie the game in the 9th was spoiled as Chattanooga lost a close one to the Smokies (Cubs) 6 to 5. The Smokies built a 5-0 lead but the Lookouts scored 3 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to tie the game at 5. However, the Smokies were able to push across a run in the bottom of the 9th to win the game. Chris Reed went the first 6 and allowed 2 runs but only gave up 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9. Hector Nelo could not keep the game close, giving up 3 runs. Jarret Martin restored order but Juan Gonzalez was unable to keep the game tied in the 9th. The Lookout offense was helped by 3 straight errors which led to 3 runs in the 8th and then Jon Garcia walked in his second consecutive inning PA and Noel Cuevas hit a game-tying 2-run home run.
HiA – The Quakes had a pitching duel on Friday as Rancho took this game over Modesto (Rockies) 3 to 1. Tom WIndle had a nice start, 6 IP, 4 hits an unearned run and 4 strikeouts in getting his first win of the season. Daniel Coulombe went for 2.1 scoreless innings and then Owen Jones picked up the save. Chris Jacobs went 2 for 4 and as did Corey Seager. Seager tripled in the first run and later scored the second run in a raucous first inning. Although the first 4 batters reached safely, Robbie Garvey was caught stealing home so that inning did not produce as much as it might have.
LoA – After tying the game at 1, the Loons saw the River Bandits (Astros) take a 5 run lead on their way to a 6 to 4 victory the Loons. James Campbell went 5, giving up 8 hits, 3 walks and 4 runs. The two runs scored off Loon pitcher James Baune provided the final 2 run margin. The Loons' offense has not been much a problem but despite putting men on base ahead of them, Kyle Farmer, Paul Hoenecke, Joey Curletta and Justin Chigbogu had just one hit between them and did not produce any scoring. Jacob Scavuzzo went 2 for 3 and 2 walks.
Coming up – Saturday sees Henry Sosa pitching for the Isotopes, Andres Santiago toeing the rubber for the Lookouts, and Fabio Martinez taking the mound for the Quakes. Luis Chirinos starts for the Loons.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: Pitcher Steve Smith was put on the DL, outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez assigned to Chattanooga Lookouts from Albuquerque Isotopes.
