NL West Weekly Report: Consistency is key

The last two weeks have been pretty consistent for four of the five teams in the NL West. As the first month slowly comes to a close, one team continues to stay hot.

Team Recaps:

Diamondbacks: Arizona went 3-4 this week. The Diamondbacks started off the by splitting a four game series in Chicago against the Cubs. The DBacks then went home and lost two of three to the Phillies.

Padres: San Diego went 3-4 this week. The Padres started off by losing two of three in Milwaukee to the Brewers. San Diego then visited the nation's capital and split a four game series with Washington.

Rockies: Colorado went 4-2 this week. The Rockies started off the week by taking two of three from the Giants on the road. Colorado then had a day off before winning two of three in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Giants: San Francisco went 4-2 this week. The Giants started off by losing two of three against the visiting Rockies. San Fran then had a day off before sweeping Cleveland at home.

Dodgers: Los Angeles went 2-5 this week. The Dodgers started off by dropping three of four to the visiting Phillies. Los Angeles then hosted Colorado and lost two of three.

WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THESE TEAMS NEXT WEEK:

Diamondbacks: Three at home against the Rockies, day off, and three on the road against the Padres

Padres: Three on the road against the Giants, day off, and three at home against the Diamondbacks

Rockies: Three on the road against the Diamondbacks and four at home against the Mets

Giants: Three at home against the Padres, day off, and three on the road against the Braves

Dodgers: Day off, three on the road against the Twins, and three on the road against the Marlins

OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Rockies' outfielder Charlie Blackmon. The 27-year-old hit .389 over Colorado's five games this week. Blackmon hit three homers and totaled six RBIs over that span. He also only struck out once while walking three times.

BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE:

Giants' outfielder Mike Morse. San Francisco's slugger went 2-for-4 on April 23rd against Colorado. But what makes Morse's performance standout is that his only two hits were homers. One of which was a solo homer and the other was a three-run homer.

OVERALL TEAM OF THE WEEK:

The Colorado Rockies (for the second week in a row). The Rockies were one of two weeks to go 4-2 this week. Colorado's offense averaged 5.7 runs per game while the pitching staff held opponents to just 4 runs per game. The Rockies had a couple players that were deserving of the player of the week award: Charlie Blackmon (who won), Justin Morneau (.385 batting average, one homer, four RBIs), and Brandon Barnes (.471 batting average).

WORST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE:

Padres' starter Robbie Erlin. San Diego's starter didn't pitch too well against the Nationals on April 25th. The lefty gave up eight earned runs in five and a third innings. He only managed to strike out three and walked two.
