Dodgers 4/7/14 minor league report - Joc Pederson leads Isotopes to victory

Joc Pederson reached base 4 times, scored 3 runs, and jacked his second homer of the season in the Isotopes 4 - 2 victory

Minor League Player of the DayFabio Martinez (HiA) - 6 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 5 K's, 4 walks. While Joc Pederson had a great game on Monday, I couldn't ignore 6 innings of no-hit ball thrown by Fabio. The 24 year old started his career with the Angles then moved on to Cleveland before finding himself with the Dodgers. While he walked 4, he certainly make a splash in his Quake's debut.4

AAA – The Isotopes won the opening game of their 4 games series against Aces (Dbacks) on Monday, downing Reno 4 to 2. Joc Pederson continued his strong start as he reached base 4 times and and scored 3 of his club's 4 runs, one of them coming on his second homer of the season. Clint Robinson went 3 for 5 with a couple of RBI's, while catcher Miguel Olivo had two singles in 4 at bats. Topes starter Henry Sosa was outstanding in his Albuquerque debut as he allowed just 3 hits and a run over 6 innings of work to record the win. Justin Souza followed with 2 shutout frames before Sam Demel came in to record the save.

AA – The Lookouts went down quietly in the rubber game of their 5 game series with the Generals (Mariners) on Monday, falling to Jackson 4 to 0. The Chattanooga offense didn't just have trouble scoring runs, but they also failed to even hit the ball as they had just two base knocks in the contest, with one of them being an O'Koyea Dickson double. On the mound Garrett Gould held the opposition scoreless over the first 4 innings, but ran into some trouble over the next two frames and ended up allowing all 4 runs (although only 2 were earned). A trio of Lookout relievers held the Generals scoreless over the final 3.2 innings, including a 2 strikeout performance from Jarrett Martin in the 9th.

HiA Brandon Dixon was the hero for the Quakes on Monday as his walk-off homer in the bottom of the 13th gave Rancho a 3 - 2 victory over the 66ers (Angles). For Dixon it was a great time for his first hit of the game and for his first long ball of the season. Jeremy Rathjen went 2 for 4 and also went deep, while Corey Seager had 3 hits in 5 at bats. Brian Wilson made his second appearance for the Quakes and allowed a hit in his inning of work, while also recording one punch out. The story of the day, however, came from de facto starter Fabio Martinez as he followed Wilson with 6 hitless innings in his Rancho debut. The 24 year old, who spent last year in the Cleveland organization, struck out 5 but also walked 4. Blake Smith preserved the shutout through the 8th, but then Owen Jones completely blew the save by allowing a couple of runs in the 9th. Luckily that was the bullpen's only flaw of the night as Freddie Cabrera and Matt Shelton finished off the game with 3 scoreless frames.

LoA – Off day

Coming up – Only three games again on Tuesday as the Lookouts this time have the day off. Red Patterson will make his 2014 debut for the Isotopes, while Greg Harris will do the same for the Loons. The Quakes pitcher is still TBD.

Minor League Transactions – AAA/AA: Pitcher Tyson Brummett was assigned to the Lookouts from the Isotopes.
