Minor League Player of the Day – Darnell Sweeney (AA) - 3 for 4, 2 2B's, 1 HR, 4 RBI's, 4 Runs. While Seager had yet another big game, Sweeney had the better stat line as he connected on 3 extra base hits including a grand slam. For the season the shortstop has been consistent all year long with a .285 average and a .817 OPS.
AAA – The Isotopes won a pitching duel on Thursday, edging the Bees (Angels) 1 to 0. Starting pitching Jeff Bennett, making just his second start of the season for Albuquerque after being signed earlier this month, tossed 7 scoreless innings and allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks while also punching out 3. Colt Hynes blanked the Bees in the 8th then Jose Dominguez picked up his second save with a perfect 9th. At the plate Mike Baxter was perfect on the night as he went 2 for 2 with a double and walked twice. Clint Robinson drove in the other run for the Topes with a single in the 6th, and he also doubled earlier in the game.
AA – The Lookouts blew out the Braves on Thursday 15 to 4. The top of the lineup did most of the damage for Chattanooga as Darnell Sweeney went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a grand slam, 4 RBI's and 4 runs scored while Ryan Adams went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in 5. Daniel Mayora was the only other multi-RBI man in this game as he was a perfect 2 for 2 with a double, 3 walks, and 2 runs batted in. Tyson Brummett tied a season high by allowing 3 earned runs, but this was the one game he didn't have to be perfect as he picked up his 4th win. A trio of relievers didn't even allow a hit over the final 4 frames to close out the victory.
HiA – The Quakes went on a hit-parade on Thursday as they downed the 66ers (Angels) 6 to 4. The Rancho offense came up with 14 hits in this game, led by the red hot Corey Seager who went 4 for 5 to boost his league leading average to .368. Seager's OPS is also now over 1.000 and is just a few points behind the league leader. Robbie Garvey also had a big game as he fell just a double shy of the cycle and drove in 4, while Aaron Miller finally gets his name mentioned after going 2 for 3 with a triple. Starter Jharel Cotton allowed just 4 hits and 1 run in this game, but he fell one out short of qualifying for the win. Blake Smith picked up his 6th save of the year with a flawless 9th.
LoA – Not much to write about here as the Loons fell to the Silver Hawks (Dbacks) 4 to 1. The Great Lakes offense had just 4 hits in this game, with Joey Curletta's double being the only highlight. On the mound Jonathan Martinez actually had a quality start as he allowed 3 runs over 6 frames, then Ralston Cash gave up a run in his two innings of work.
Coming up – A couple of former 1st round picks throw on Friday as Zach Lee takes the mound for the Isotopes and Chris Reed gets the ball in Chattanooga. Tom Windle will toe the rubber for the Quakes while Zachary Bird will start for the Loons.
Minor League Transactions – HiA: Steven Proscia was placed on the inactive list while James McDonald was assigned to the Quakes.
