Dodgers minor league report May 23: Joc Pederson, Corey Seager continue hot hitting

Friday saw continued hot hitting by Joc Pederson and Corey Seager but middling starts by Zach Lee, Chris Reed and Tom Windle lead to losses

Minor League Player of the DayJoc Pederson (AAA) - 2 for 4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI's, 1 Run.  Both Pederson and Seager went 2 for 4, today is Joc's day with the triple and home run.

AAA In a trend that continued in both AA and HiA, poor starting pitching led to a loss as Isotopes couldn't quite score enough in their loss to the Aces (Diamondbacks) 8 to 3. Zach Lee made the start and he pitched 6 innings, allowing 8 hits, a walk, 5 runs (4 earned) and striking out 5.  Yimi Garcia pitched 2 innings, giving up a run and striking out 3.  Josh Judy gave up the last 2 runs in an inning of work. Joc Pederson provided the scoring, driving in all 3 runs on a solo home run and a 2-run triple.  Jamie Romak went 3 for 4 and Tim Federowicz was 1 for 4 with a double.

AA – A poor start put the Lookouts too far behind the Braves as Mississippi held on to win 7 to 5Chris Reed has not had a good May, 4 of his 5 starts have seen at least 4 runs scored and on Friday,  Reed gave up 7 runs, 6 earned in 5 innings.  For the month, in 26.2 innings, he has walked 15 while striking out 31.  After Reed, three relievers held the Braves scoreless.  Darnell Sweeney, Ryan Adams and Jeremy Hazelbaker each 2 hits, O'Koyea Dickson had a double and 2 RBI.

HiA – The Quakes have had a terrific May but Friday was a game to quickly forget, as Lake Elsinore (Padres) Stormed over Rancho Cucamonga 9 to 1.  Tom Windle saw 10 hits and 7 runs score in his 3.2 inning start. Corey Seager had 2 more hits including a double.

LoA - Behind good pitching and despite going 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position, the Loons defeated the Silver Hawks (Diamondbacks) 4 to 1Zachary Bird started and went 5 innings, allowing a run, 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6.  Victor Araujo, Michael Johnson and Mark Pope put up zeros, Araujo has shined as a relief pitcher, in 21 innings over 11 games this year, Araujo has struck out 23 and just walking 3.  Paul Hoenecke went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBI, Joey Curletta and Jesmuel Valentin went 1 for 4. Catcher Spencer Navin went 2 for 4.

Coming upLuis De Paula will start for the Loons, Andres Santiago gets the ball in Chattanooga, Sam Demel takes the mound for the Isotopes and Fabio Martinez will toe the rubber for the Quakes.
