Dodgers minor league report May 24: Darnell Sweeney gets 3 hits in victory

Isotopes and Lookouts get solid starts and enough offense to post home wins

Minor League Player of the DayDarnell Sweeney (AA) - 3 for 4, 1 2b, 1 RBI, 1 Run.  Sweeney has taken to the move to shortstop, in his last 3 games, he is 8 for 12, 3 doubles, a triple and home run, scoring 6 and also having 6 RBI.

AAA The Isotopes took an early lead, lost the lead and then scored a walk-off win over the Aces (Diamondbacks) 3 to 2Sam Demel had a solid start, going 5 innings, allowing just a hit and 2 walks while striking out 4.  The Aces would score two in the top of the seventh to tie the score, the second run scoring on a single off of Paco Rodriguez who then struck out the next batter to keep the game tied.  Matt Magill pitched 1.1 innings to get the win.  The Isotope offense was mostly quiet, Jamie Romak hit his 13th home run in his 2 for 4 night, Alex Liddi started the winning rally with a pinch-hit single, Miguel Rojas singled after that and then Mike Baxter was hit by a pitch.  Walter Ibarra then got the walk-off single to drive in Liddi.

AA – The Lookouts put up 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th and then survived a bases loaded and no outs beginning in the top of the 9th to win over Mississippi Braves 6 to 3.  Andres Santiago picked up his first win the season, going 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs while scattering 7 hits and a walk.  Santiago also struck out 6.  Five relievers followed but it was Mike Thomas who provided the crucial final bit of pitching as Thomas came in the game in the top of the 9th with the bases loaded and nobody out, Thomas struck out the first two batters he saw and then got a fielder's choice to end the game.  Darnell Sweeney was 3 for 4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, O'Koyea Dickson tripled in two runs, and Brian Cavazos-Galvez was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

HiA – The Quakes fell behind again to the Storm (Padres) and couldn't catch up losing 6 - 3.  Fabio Martinez retired the first 9 batters in a row and held the Storm scoreless for the first 4 innings but then allowed 5 runs to score in the next 2 innings.  Martinez pitched 6 innings, gave up 6 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), 3 walks and striking out 9.  Corey Seager hit his 20th double of the year, going 1 for 3, Robbie Garvey hit a 3-run home run to account for the scoring.

LoA - The Loons were never in this game, behind by 6 runs after the top of 4th, as the Silver Hawks (Diamondbacks) defeated Chattanooga 7 to 2Luis De Paula and Brandon Martinez each allowed 5 hits, De Paula allowed 5 runs in his 2.2 inning start while Martinez allowed 2 runs in his 3.1 innings.  The Loons offense was quiet as they struck out 15 times, Jesmuel Valentin went 1 for 3 and a run scored.

Coming up Scott Barlow will start for the Loons, Chris Anderson will toe the rubber for the Quakes, Garrett Gould gets the ball in Chattanooga and Carlos Frias takes the mound for the Isotopes.
