Dodgers minor league report May 26: Brandon Dixon, Darnell Sweeney keep hitting

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers' affiliates split four games on Monday, including a pair of 1-0 games and an extra-inning loss.

Minor League Player of the Day

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga second baseman Brandon Dixon hit a game-tying three-run home run in the eighth inning, and went 3-for-5. Dixon, the Dodgers' third-round pick in 2013, began the year hitting just .148 (13-for-88) with no walks in his first 22 games, but since then is hitting .330/.355/.495 in 23 games.

Triple-A Albuquerque

Runs were at a premium on Monday as the Isotopes lost 1-0 to the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks). Carlos Frias was stuck with the hard-luck loss, allowing just one run in seven innings, with seven strikeouts and no walks. Pedro Baez pitched a clean eighth inning in his Triple-A debut. Joc Pederson was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk on Monday, and in 22 home games in 2014 is hitting .410/.529/.735.

It was just the second nine-inning 1-0 game in the 12-year history of Isotopes Park. The other 1-0 game was an Isotopes win over Nashville on June 23, 2009, a minor league rehab game during Manny Ramirez's 50-game suspension. The starter that night for Nashville was Manny Parra, who pitched in relief for the Reds in the seventh inning as Dodger Stadium on Monday.

Double-A Chattanooga

Darnell Sweeney had his fifth straight multi-hit game to lead the Lookouts to a 6-3 road win over the Birmingham Barons (White Sox) on Monday. The shortstop doubled, singled walked and scored three runs, and is 13-for-20 (.650) with six extra base hits during that five-game streak. Brian Cavazos-Galvez homered, and right-hander Nick Struck struck out six and allowed two runs in six innings to earn the victory.

Advanced Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

Down 3-0 in the eighth inning, the Quakes rallied tie thanks to a three-run shot by Dixon, one of three hits on the day for the second baseman. But outfielder-turned-pitcher Blake Smith allowed two runs in the 10th inning, his second inning of work, in Rancho Cucamonga's 5-3 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres). Julio Urias allowed two runs on five hits in four innings, with two walks and four strikeouts. Corey Seager showed he was human, going 0-for-5 to snap his 12-game hitting streak.

Class-A Great Lakes

Delvis Morales picked up his fourth hit of the season, in 32 at-bats, driving in Brandon Trinkwon with a seventh-inning single for the game's only run in the Loons' 1-0 victory over the Lake County Captains (Indians). Victor Arano pitched five scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and Greg Harris pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the win. Joey Curletta was 1-for-3 with a walk to extend his hitting streak to eight games. The right fielder has exactly one hit in all eight games, hitting .267/.371/.367 during the streak.
