Carl Crawford is the odd man out in the Dodgers' four-outfielder rotation on Saturday, sitting against right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner of the Marlins in the second game of a three-game weekend set in Miami.
Crawford was 0-for-4 in Friday's series opener and is in a 4-for-45 (.089) dating back to April 15. He is hitting just .185/.212/.259 in 24 games this season.
This is where the outfield playing time will start to get interesting, as the Dodgers aren't slated to face another left-hander for the remainder of the road trip.
Don Mattingly has used his all right-handed outfield of Scott Van Slyke, Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig in seven of eight games against southpaws since Kemp's return from the disabled list, and the only game Van Slyke didn't start in left field he started at first base.
In the 18 games against right-handers since Kemp's return, including Saturday night, the outfield starts (including two starts at designated hitter in Minnesota) have been distributed as follows: Ethier 16, Crawford 15, Kemp 13, Puig 12.
