Dodgers 5/30/14 minor league report - Lookouts are only winner, Quakes are rocked

Lookouts are the only winner as Isotopes and Loons lose by a run and Quakes are on the other side of a 7-run inning in big loss

Minor League Player of the DayJesmuel Valentin (LoA) - 3 for 5, 1 run scored, 1 double.  20-year old Jesmuel Valentin is trying to get adjusted in second turn in Midwest League, has scored 37 runs, stolen 13 bases and has a .351 OBP as season moves from May to June.

AAA – The Isotopes suffer another walkoff loss to Sacramento (Athletics) 8 - 7 as Josh Judy gives up 3 consecutive hits in the bottom of the 9th, the last single scoring the winning run.  Sam Demel started for Albuquerque and gave up the first 7 runs in his 3.2 innings, Demel also gave up 8 hits and 2 walks.  Steve Smith and Paco Rodriguez pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless ball until Sacramento walked off in the 9th.  Old friend Josh Lindblom started for Sacramento and did well at first, retiring the first six Isotopes, striking out five in the first two innings.  But then after being staked to a 7 - 2 lead, Lindblom gave up 5 runs in the top of the 5th as the Isotopes tied the game at 7.  Jeremy Hazelbaker homered and was 1 for 4 with 3 RBI, Clint Robinson was also 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI.  Miguel Rojas and Griff Erickson each had 2 hits.

AA – The Lookouts came back twice from 2-run deficits to beat Barons (White Sox) 5 - 4.  Raydal Sanchez was the first of eight Chattanooga pitchers, Sanchez gave up 2 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Jarret Martin and Hector Nelo didn't allow any runs.  Matt Shelton picked up the win and Juan Ramon Noriega struck out two to get his first save.  O'Koyea Dickson went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Scott Schebler and Casio Grider each had 2 hits.

HiA – A tight 1-run game ended as the Quakes saw the JetHawks (Astros) roll 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th to take the first game of the series 9 - 1.  Geoff Brown started for the Quakes and pitched well in Lancaster, going 5 innings, giving up 2 runs, 5 hits, no walks and 4 strikeouts.  Owen Jones and Luis Meza each gave up runs in the bottom of the 7th.  It was a quiet night at the plate for the Quakes as they struck out 12 times while just getting 4 hits in the game.  James Baldwin scored the only run on his solo home run.

LoA – The Loons fell behind by three runs and despite scoring two runs in the 8th, could not catch the Lugnuts (Blue Jays) losing 4 to 3. Scott Barlow gave up all four runs to the Lugnuts, Barlow also gave up 6 hits and struck out 6.  Besides Jesmuel Valentin, Kyle Farmer was the other multi-hit player, Farmer went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.  Josmar Cordero went 1 for 4.

Coming upGreg Harris pitches for the Loons playing at 4:05 PDT and Nick Struck goes for the Lookouts at 4:15. Julio Urias starts for the Quakes at 6:00, and Carlos Frias toes the rubber for the Isotopes at 6:15.
