Minor League Player of the Day – Scott Barlow (LoA) - 6 IP, 1 Hit, 0 Walks, 0 Runs, 6 K's. Barlow, who had Tommy John in 2012, showed the he is finally back at full strength after 6 innings of 1-hit ball that started with 5 perfect frames.
AAA – Jose Dominguez had all kinds of trouble in his return to the Isotopes as he allowed 4 runs in the 9th which gave Fresno (Giants) a 5 to 3, come from behind victory over Albuquerque. Dominguez gave up 4 hits, walked one, and had a wild pitch in the loss, and his performance was the opposite of starter Carlos Frias who tossed 7 strong innings. Frias allowed just one run on 5 hits, although he struck out just 2. Paco Rodriguez threw a perfect 8th prior to the Dominguez implosion. At the plate Griff Erickson clubbed his 3rd homer of the season, while Clint Robinson smacked his 4th bomb. Joc Pederson had a rough game as he went 0 for 5 with 3 K's.
AA – After being down big early, the Lookouts comeback attempt fell just short as Chattanooga lost to Pensacola (Reds) 9 to 8. O'Koyea Dickson was a big part of that late offense as he crushed a grand slam in the 7th to pull his team within 1. Dickson also had a 2-run bomb earlier in the game and finished with 6 RBI's. Jeremy Hazelbaker was the only other offensive player of note as he went 3 for 5 with a double and a pair of RBI's. On the mound starter Raydel Sanchez got beat up early as he allowed 7 runs in just 3.2 innings of work. Nick Struck also struggled before Craig Stem came in and fired 2 hitless frames.
HiA – The Quakes appropriately erupted for five 8th inning runs on Cinco de Mayo to pull out a 10 - 6 win over the Mavericks (Mariners). After tying the game with 3 runs in the 7th, Steven Proscia started the 8th with a solo homer. Back to back doubles by Robbie Garvey and Brandon Dixon plated 3 more runs, then Brandon Jacobs capped the scoring with a RBI single, his third hit and run batted in of the night. On the mound Julio Urias continued to be merely human as he gave up 2 runs on 4 hits over 4 innings of work. His ERA now sits at 5.60 for the season. Geoff Brown struggled in relief, and while Owen Jones also allowed a run he was able to record the win.
LoA – Scott Barlow was perfect for five innings, but the Loons still suffered a 2 - 0 loss to the Dragons (Reds) on Monday. Barlow finally allowed a single to lead off the 6th, but retired the next three batters in order to finish the game by retiring 18 of the 19 batters he faced. Scott also struck out 6 in what was only his second start of the year. Unfortunately Greg Harris couldn't keep the magic alive as he allowed a couple of runs to score over the next three innings while the Great Lakes offense did a whole lot of nothing. Kyle Farmer went 3 for 4 with a double, but the rest of the club managed just two singles int he defeat.
Coming up – Everyone is back in action tomorrow, including the Isotopes who will feature Red Patterson's first AAA start since his major league debut. Tyson Brummett will throw for the Lookouts, Lindsey Caughel will take the mound for the Quakes, and Jonathan Martinez will get the ball for the Loons.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: Carlos Frias joined the Isotopes while Nick Struck was sent to AA. Also Steve Smith was momentarily removed from the roster as Stephen Fife returned to the club. AA: Pedro Baez got the call to the show while Eric Eadington was activated from the DL.
