Dodgers 6/13/14 minor league report - Darnell Sweeney homers twice in loss

As many teams head toward their All-Star break, Darnell Sweeney has a big day at the plate

Minor League Player of the DayDarnell Sweeney (AA) - 2 for 4, 2 home runs, 2 runs, 2 RBI and a walk. The 2014 Southern League All-Star hit two of the three Lookout home runs but it wasn't enough to produce a win.

AAA – The Isotopes were able to hold off the Zephyrs (Miami) and win 5 - 4. Jeff Bennett pitched 6 innings, gave up 3 runs, 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3.  Bennett also went 2 for 2 at the plate, including a double.  Colt Hynes and Pedro Baez provided relief, Baez gave up a run but still got the save.  Aside from Bennett, Erisbel Arruebarrena also had 2 hits and an RBI.  Joc Pederson was 1 for 2, an RBI, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases.

AA – The Lookouts lost their fourth straight game to the Stars (Brewers), 8 - 7.  Matt Shelton had 6 runs to his name but only 2 were earned, Shelton pitched 4.1 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 walks along with those 6 runs.  Jarret Martin went 2.2 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts.   Juan Gonzalez took the loss, giving 2 runs in his one inning of work.  Aside from Sweeney's home runs, Scott Schebler also hit a solo shot as he went 3 for 5.  O'Koyea Dickson went 2 for 5.

HiA – The JetHawks (Astros) 4-run inning bottom of 6th was enough to provide a margin for defeating the Quakes 7 - 4. Fabio Martinez continued his year of walking and striking out batters at about the same rate, last night he walked 3 and struck out 5 in five innings pitched.  Luis Meza gave 2 runs and 3 hits and took the loss.  Steven Proscia had 2 hits.

LoA – The Loons got one-run win over Lugnuts (Blue Jays) 2 to 1Zach Bird gave up only a run and one hit in his five innings of work.  Bird also walked 4 and struck out 5.  Kyle Hooper, Victor Araujo and Mark Pope provided scoreless relief. Kyle Farmer and Joey Curletta each had one hit.

DSL –The Dodgers fell to the Royals 3 - 1. Dodger outfielder 17-year old Shakir Alpert has an .886 OPS to start the season.  Hector Rodriguez started for the Dodgers, he went 5 innings, 2 runs, 5 hits and 2 strikeouts.

Coming upZach Lee takes the mound for the Isotopes at 6:05 p.m. PDT; Raydel Sanchez leads the Lookouts at 4:30 p.m.; Chris Anderson pitches for the Quakes at 6:00 p.m.; and Brandon Martinez toes the rubber for the Loons at 4:05 p.m.  The Dominican Dodgers start at 7:30 a.m. against the Dominican Rays.

Minor League Transactions – AAA: Catcher Tim Federowicz was optioned to Albuquerque.  AA: SS Faustino Oguisten was placed on the DL.  SS Angel Sanchez was assigned to Chattanooga.  HiA: Geoff Brown assigned to Rancho Cucamonga.
