OGDEN, UT -- The Dodgers rookie league short season affiliate in the Pioneer League, the Ogden Raptors, announced their opening day roster on Saturday night, a collection of players that includes several draft selections from the Dodgers' last two drafts.
Ogden opens their season on Monday at home against the Grand Junction Rockies at 6 p.m. PT. Abdiel Velasquez starts on opening day for the Raptors.
Former major league pitcher Jack McDowell makes his professional coaching debut as Raptors manager. Leo Garcia is Ogden's hitting coach for a second straight season and Greg Sabat is their first-year pitching coach.
John Richy, the Dodgers' third-round pick in 2014 out of UNLV, and Brock Stewart, their sixth-rounder out of Illinois State, will both begin their professional careers in the Ogden bullpen. Other 2014 draftees on the Raptors pitching staff include Ryan Taylor (13th round) and Joe Broussard (15th).
Cody Bellinger and Justin Chigbogu, Dodgers fourth-round picks in 2013 and 2012 respectively, will anchor the infield (well, mostly first base and designated hitter), which also includes 2014 draftees Ivan Vela (21st round) and Jimmy Allen (24th round).
The outfield includes a trio of new Dodgers: Colin Hering (10th round), Devan Ahart (16th) and Brian Wolfe (20th).
